When we were young...we depended on our parents for everything....and they provided it..and taught us how to live on our own...then we moved out..and started our own lives..
These days...we depend on our parents when we are young..and when we move out...we look to Government like a mommy and a daddy..expecting it to provide for us as our parents did..
We are a society now that is growing older..but never growing up.

The Bible warned against Idleness....The bible teaches us how to deal with the poor...and the needy...Sure ..there are some who actually need help..but I think most on welfare are fraudulent..and the gov. never takes the cheaters off the system..even when they have been turned in...
The biggest welfare fraud ever...is welfare itself..Its a trap that leads to desparity and hopelessness..and low self esteem.....Its an institution that breeds criminals...for these poor children have no clue what a normal functioning family even looks like......Work Ethic? Whats that ? Never seen it...How do we expect them to know how to be respectful hard working citizens when they have never even seen what that is..they are trapped in hell..aka..the welfare system..
Warning against idleness...2 Thessalonians 3:6
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ..we command you, brother, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us...For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example..
we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyones food without paying for it...
On the contrary..we worked night and day., laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you..
We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow..
For even when we were with you...we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."
We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy, they are busybodies..
Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat..And as for you brothers, never tire of doing what is right..
If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him..Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed..
Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother...
Freebies without obligation...breed unappreciativness..and arrogance..
When Katrina hit..a friend of mine from Texas went down to help..He said that those people were so ungrateful for the help..and acted as if they were the queens and kings and were bossing people around..as if they ran things..demanding this and demanding that.....He was sickened by it all and left..He would not help them anymore..they were like animals..
The 'projects' are a hopeless pit of despair for these people..I think welfare was created more to keep people down..instead of lifting them up...Because if it were to lift them up...they would not allow people to be on welfare for decades....and even generations of families raised on welfare..generation after generation.
These folks have NO WAY of ever making anything of themselves as long as they are on that system..
The bible says to let them feel shame......and yet today...we mail them checks so they wont be humiliated or embarassed..and because of the check mailings...these people are now living in the mountains...cooking up their meth...and peddling drugs...bringing their vile lifestyle to the small mountain communities...stealing and terrorizing good folks...
Our society is evolving backwards because of lack of discipline in its people..
Isnt it time we grew up? After all..look at the state our state is in...  All this is due to freebie handouts...and ungratful receipients..
All the while....we the people..who work...are expected to be their slaves..and provide for them..without anything in return...
Lack of discipline on their part...and on the part of our chaotic gov. which has fallen into lawlessness..

The lack of discipline you speak of is directly connected to the break-up of the family unit, therefore who is teaching these kids the lessons they need.
What you say does have some valid points, However during this recession, there are a lot of hard working people who are on welfare,food stamps and other govt programs.
Your right in the fact that there should be limits on how long one can be on a program and making people do community work part- time.
If you always hand things out, you will always have hands outs wanting something.
Now, we can never lose our compassion,but we shouldn't loses our common sense on how we help people either.

Well......... not trying to sound like a total bum..... but, I do live at home. And no I dont pay rent. Its not so much a mooch thing as my father said, "I dont need money, just some help". I do earn my keep though. hehe I would make a great house husband. *nudge nudge, hint hint* 
Granted I do prefer to work, money being a good thing. Oh shit, I shouldnt say that out loud, someone may think im a racist or something. *coughs* where was I? Oh yeah, my dad. I do the laundry, cleaning, help him with wood and stuff like that, where having a second person makes all the difference in the world. This way I am also free to take a day off and work around the house, fixing the porch and other things he has wanted to do since my mother died. I do take care of my bills, so its not like im taking advantage of things. I have a seperate part of the house. (basement) Its quiet and calm. hehe I am the troll under the rock.  Kitchen, bathroom, everything, so its all good. I do work most of the time, weather permitting for the job. When the weather such, I end up doing soething around the house, even if its just a couple dishes in the sink upstairs.

This is a cop-out I've heard all too many times. If I can make it out of being a child of that system, so can anyone else. All they have to do is want it bad enough. I went from growing up having nothing to being the first of seven to graduate college. I have two nice cars and I'm buying a better house than I've ever stepped foot in.
Maybe I made it out because I never felt like I was somebody's slave.

Howdy Ed! THats what I think too..limits...
Check out my blog on WE NEED TO TAKE AWAY THE BIRD FEEDER....its shows how when people..animals get something for nothing...then they start to expect it..and get mad when they dont get it...
I never suggest that we loose our compassion..I am not for totally dismantling the welfare system..but I does need some very deep reform...
I think welfare is fine for disabled....old who have no income...our vets that need it due to injury....abandonded families..etc..
Welfare should only be a safety net for the young...as many young women have planned how to 'get out on their own' by RANCHING BABIES..TO MAKE MONEY...just like we do in the cattle industry.....AKA....BABY RANCHERS Whats the difference between them and the cattle ranchers....making babies..calves for profit..no difference..

Work is work..whether you earn a paycheck or not...as long as one is making their own way...without enslaving their neighbors...thru taxes..
I was a homemaker...never did I draw a paycheck...yet..my job was very important..the same as yours...
