Microsoft it set to globally unveil their latest operating system WINDOWS 7 on October 22nd. It's already the 22nd in Asia... I wonder if anyone gives a shit over there?
This weekend, I spoke to a CompUSA salesman and he said only the technicians have seen/trained on the new operating system. Retailers have been warned not to preview this product to customers or they run the risk of loosing their retail license.
I am told It's unlike either interface (XP or Vista) and it's compatible with software made for either Operating System.
Many of the new computers CompUSA (TigerDirect) sell will offer a free W7 upgrade.
Hopefully, Microsoft actually has improved this new Operating System and not schemed another way to bilk the consumers into spending 1,000's for another nightmare of patches or software upgrades due to bugs and incompatibility.
I've been considering a netbook only because some can go 8 hours on a charge but I'll wait for the reports to see if WINDOWS 7 is really a step in the right direction. Otherwise, I'll buy a lower priced refurbished computer running XP Pro. This way, I know all my software will work on it.
Like all things Microsoft, it's a wait-and-see game.

I think it may be premature to go to Windows 7......
It is untested...
The hackers will be exploring it with vigor..
XP has a lot of excellent third party software.....
The virus peeps will be doing a number on it....... just because it's new....
I will wait for a year or so....

NASA put a man on the moon with an IBM mdoel 60, series 360 computer with a whopping 64 K (No, not a typo, 64 K) memory.
Do we realy need to to grab at every shred of new technology, wasting lots of time, and lots and lots of money, to sieze each new gadget in an unending flow of "improvements? For email, solitare, and surfing? For faster time killing?
Any new microsoft system is for masochists amd microsoft profits.

Window 7 is totally awesome, i used the beta version.
It starts a lot quicker, they make the task bar does much more, the start menu has changed a bit.
Searching your files is a zillion times faster.
The sidebar is gone, but the widgets are still there.
It's wonderful in almost every way possible.
They got this one right, but, I am sure some bug will come with it,like all the new os do.

I've heard positive comments on it from the beta testers, others that it's a well patched Vista. I was hoping that it might have been out in time to maybe get one at a Boxing Day price. Ah well. The last PC I bought was an HP with Vista installed. That was my biggest issue with that model, second biggest was that, unlike the last time I bought one already made (back then a 200MMX, lol), it came with the OS on CD's so I was able to reinstall if and when the feces interfaces with the air recirculation unit. My third issue, found out too late, was that the PSU that comes with a 'name' PC is woefully underpowered, 300W, for installing a video card even though the CPU (6000+) and RAM (3GB) are respectable.
Okay, having gone a little off-topic, I was googling for the actual policy but, like, support for W98 has been discontinued, I think they said it would only be done for two previous releases back, so the time for XP's updates is numbered. And we can't just pretend Vista never happened, more's the pity.

Windows 7 is out here in China. The hawkers are selling full-blown pirated versions with a Keygen for 25 RMB. That would be 3.66 USD. They have been available for about a month now. In about two weeks the price will drop to 10 RMB ($1.46). Just a guess, but at my neighborhood Computer Market (which is HUGE!), I would estimate about 1 or 2 million sold in the last week...
gotta love China!...no rules...just right!....

I don't trust Microsoft as far as I can throw them. Did you see this little piece of news, Chat? Microsoft Update messes with Mozilla Firefox
