Where is the line between truth and lie. Are there different degrees of truth and lies? A white lie, no dear, those pants dont make your ass look fat. Where is the line between what is considered acceptable an unacceptable? Look at religion, one mans truth is another mans lie. Athiests, their truth is there is no god. Satanists, the demiurge is a malicous tyrant. Who is right and who is wrong? When an athiest says there is no god, is he lying if you believe differently? Is there even a line TO be blurred?

There are blatant lies, That is undisputable, but what about truth? How we percieve reality makes a big difference. Even look at science, how many theories are treated as truth, when in reality, they are nothing more than a concept supported by what we know at the time. Look at the big bang theory. How can all matter come from an explosion from an object the size of a pin head. No, not obama, but a sewing tool. *snickers* hehe No Im not giving ammo to creationists either. I think big bangs are the result of a black hole not being able to contain anymore matter. The gravitational forces are so extreme that the explosion dwarfs anything scientists can possibly imagine. So theoreticaly, big bangs could be happening every second in an infinite universe. To me thats my truth based on what I have read and understood of matter, physics, and astrophysics.

Am I right? Am I wrong? Did I just lie stating that to be my truth? ( not saying it, but believing it to be true). The political system. Look at the trouble being caused based on political beliefs and lines. Its like kids in a sandbox fighting over the plastic dump truck. Do we give hand outs to those who wont work because they can come up with a better excuse not than a reason to? Supported by those who do work? Or do we make people work no matter the excuse ( baring physical disabilities and age) Who is right and who is wrong? If one is right, doesnt that mean the other is wrong, thus lying?

Persective is key. I mentioned that in my other blog. How we are raised and what we are taught defines what we believe to be truth. How we have been treated, and how we see the world create our personalities. Someone with a silver spoon up their ass will see the world differently than someone who had to work and struggle all of their life.

What I search for is an absolute truth. Something that is proven and cannot be refuted. Yes I know there are things out there, but I am looking for something bigger than 2 plus 2 = 4. I am talking about life and what people believe in. There has to be some string of truth that binds all hearts and minds of men and women together. Until I find one, I shall forever be searching.

Most interesting discussion..

My thoughts are that we all have a unique idea as to what constitutes validity.

Like most 'common 'taters' (sic) on the Fox network, you're putting words in our mouths and using that as the basis for your argument. Atheism as I see it, is like 'science' in that it's requiring proof without a guarantee of certainty whereas I see religion as a feeling of certainty without proof. Without proof, you can justifiably be agnostic but then your other life perspectives kick in, like how it's been used to suppress Jews, women, left-handed people and anyone political and social expediency deems neccessary as in the 'divine right of Kings'. And how it's useful to the televangelists in their adultery and fleecing the flock.

"When an athiest (sic) says there is no god, is he lying if you believe differently?" And is a theist just being a selective atheist when he/she denies the other Gods of others?

Absolute truth...tell ya, mon, take the elevator to the top of a very tall building and take a flying leap. Nobody's actually flown yet but that's not saying you won't be the first. You've nothing to lose (well, that's not quite true) before you go splat.

And don't be so dogmatic. There are white lies. They're the ones of no real consequence of harm to another except your own credibility, told to spare others from emotional hurt. Then there are the whoppers, like why GW invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.

What I search for is an absolute truth.

And you will find it. And whatever your truth is, that is good enough and no one can tell you differently.

And we havent been close enough to the white light that spews matter to analyse it. Just thinking about it, it makes sense that the white light is the back end to a black hole. And it makes sense to have life on the other side of that light, on another universe.. but not in this one. I doubt there is life other than our own in this universe.

Getting back to truth. There is no such thing as "lying by omission" unless in a court of law. I dont have to tell others everything, no matter how much they want to know. Lets say i tell my mother that i got to New York safe and sound but i refrained from telling her i hitched hiked there. Later on she finds out and accuses me of lying by omission. Thats crap. Now if i was in a court of law i would have to tell all, otherwise it is considered lying by omission... but not anywhere else.

In my book, a lie is only a lie if the person doesn't believe what they're saying and intends to fool others for personal gain rather than to spare their feelings. Personal belief and the truth are closely linked. As long as we live we will never know everything there is to know, so perhaps the truth is only whatever we choose to believe at the time. For this reason, I try to stay open to the idea I might not always make the right choice and might benefit from altering my opinion ...

The search for the truth helps us to grow and maintains diversity ... Can you imagine a world where we all knew the absolute truth and there was no need to question anything? I'm not sure if it would peaceful or boring. What do you think?
