.
This morning, I went to buy six money orders at the post office.
After two, their machine quit printing them.

So I waited...

The clerk tried about 20 more times to print, going at it through different ways on his computer.
It didn't work, and he asked me to wait (I wasn't going anyplace, since he owed me money ... ) and he went to fetch his supervisor.

I stood, and waited....

The supervisor came and went through another 20 trials, hoping to get the machine to print.
It didn't work.

Then, she said she would re-start the computer and hit the switch...
... just when the clerk asked candidly if the computer would save all the information, considering that the action was not finished ..

I said "Uh-oh! You owe me several hundred dollars in money orders. The information better still be there...."
The supervisor said : "I hope it will".... and gave me her crooked smile..

I waited....

Then I asked how long they thought this would take...
She told me she didn't know.
I asked if I'd just stand there and wait, then... ? (Like... I don't have anything else to do in my day... )

Guess what she said? She gave me the look and said "yes".

I waited....

The thing re-booted, and she kept trying this and that, unplugging stuff, restarting menus, reading error reports....
Just as if I wasn't there....

FINALLY, the clerk had the glorious idea that he could take the money out of his register, pay it into another register and print my money orders there...

Phew..... I'm glad SOMEbody in there figured I would like to get stuff done, rather than watch them fussing over some uncooperative computer....

Did anybody say "customer service"... ???

Awwwwww.... there's nothing wrong with this Friday, really.

But there is a lot wrong with the United States Postal Services' idea of customer service.

john...

why?

Why?
Because like the vast majority of government employees they simply don't give a damn about anything except collecting a paycheck.
When there are ten people in line at the post office and only one clerk to service them, you know that customer service is not a concern.
That's why I buy stamps at the grocery store: I'm not standing in line for 20 minutes.

I order my stamps online.

Some customer service is crappy, I admit that. I work in customer service...I clean hotel rooms. And I'll be honest, I've run across guests that, if I could get away with saying it, I would have gladly told them to kiss their own ass. Moral...we're human, we're not perfect. Granted, they could have came up with the solution sooner....but, at least they came up with one.

The world stops when a computer goes down.. Know one seems to know what to do anymore when they go down... people don't know how to add.. count change..

Travelwoman,

most government employees are too stupid to think - that's why they're government employees! (they can't make it in the real world)

You can get money orders at any 7-11 store, even at Wally Mart. (if you don't feel comfortable about throwing down a large sum at a 7-11)
