An Illinois judge this week dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Cook County Sheriff's department charging Craigslist with facilitating prostitution.
The sheriff's office announced that it filed the suit in March at a press conference describing the many stings officers have arranged after reading ads for prostitutes on the site, including some that found children and women trafficked in from other countries who were forced into prostitution.
But the judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said that Craigslist can't be blamed. "Intermediaries are not culpable for 'aiding and abetting' their customers who misuse their services to commit unlawful acts," the judge wrote in his dismissal of the case.
Craigslist warns users against illegal activity, bans illegal activity in its terms of use and removes inappropriate content that it discovers. If users ignore those rules, it isn't Craigslist's fault, the judge said.
"While we accept as true the plaintiff's allegation that users routinely flout Craigslist's guidelines it is not because Craigslist has caused them to do so," the judge wrote.

You present a good outline of what is happening on Craigslist. There are many other publications both online and offline which are used for the same purpose, some knowingly and some not to the publisher,reader or potential John. However, a similar scenario could be observed with Smith and Wesson with people who use their product to gun themselves down. Then there is the Kennedy dynasty who may or may not continue to hold the monopoly on the whiskey trade and whose users of their product contribute to even more deaths in one way or another. Its difficult for me to believe that people are not aware of the dangers that may be involved with the games they play for pleasure or for money as they disregard their own lives or the lives that will be affected following their actions. But, like I keep saying "Man is the only animal that creates more problems than he can solve" Could it be related to the fact that he was given "dominion over all the earth". I've thought that had this dominion had been given to the piss ant the world would be better organized and guess what.........everyone would have a job and be working !!

Its kind of like spam here, you cant blame the mods for peoples actions. They have set up a market where the same thing could happen. Are they to blame? They do their best to clean up the site as quickly as possible, but these people persist at pulling their BS.

we do our best to eliminate the spammers, 'solicitors', and other fakes. we have several means of reporting that ind of abuse as well as a safety warning on every page. we have to leave it up to our members to do their own background checks as warranted. 'soliciting' for any aspect of the sex trade is against our terms of service as well as the mission of our site. despite the efforts of our members and staff, some do slip thru. just report and block and we'll get rid of them.

The Judge did make the right legal decision because they would have close a zillion other media formats like the internet,newspapers,mags....etc.

Oct_cat (and a few others) hit the nail on the head: if the judge ruled in favor of the plantiffs, then you'd once again have suits such as those in which people tried to sue firearms manufacturers for deaths caused by gunshots. (people actually were stupid enough to try this - claimed that guns were defective in that they caused severe injury/death simply by the manner in which they function)
IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!!! People are responsible for their actions, and that's how it is.

If Craig's List can make a buck off those young women, more power to them.
The young women in the office where I worked were hopeless, wasting their time eating, drinking, and gossiping, with little work done.
Producing a profit was left to the guys.
Maybe Craig could give seminars, or something !
