I am a native of this not so wonderful construction state. Ever since I was a little girl and until now I have never figured out why every road, highway, or freeway is always tore up. Either the road is totally blocked off or made into a single lane. Another one of my gripes is the road will be just paved and then oopps they relize they forgot to put pipes under the road or whatever the else they forgot before making the roads rice to drive on. It doesn't matter what county, city, or geographic area it is it's always a disaster and I am so fed up with the set up?

It's the same here in Wisconsin & even within the city I live. It's a combination of poor road material that only lasts 10 years or so, constantly expanding population, & the need to expand more highways to eliminate traffic congestion, especially around urbanized areas.

Yeah, these states with the season extremes have fun roads. Nothing like a crater sized pot hole to tear up your transmission. Here in Saginaw, one of our major expressways, I-675, the southbound lane has been closed all summer. It's not expected to open until the end of November. Spring hits here in Michigan and we call it "cone season" because of all of the road construction.

Shell, there is a reason I call this the state of idiocy... I am from DC, and the things people get away with here in business and in driving are phenominal. I swear some people here have fried brains..

It's all about the timing of the funding for the particular contracts.. that's why you will see a road be paved, then another contractor come along and dig it up to put pipes in, patch it, then tear it up again to do something else... it's that way where I live too... and worse since the state's stimulus money went to road construction... but our country's infrastructure due for a rebuild in a lot of places.. lot of our highways are pretty aged now...

Hey - gotta spend them Federal dollars in order to get more next year!
That's how it works.
Every state does it, but those in the snow belt have to do it when the weather is good: here in California, they tear up the roads year 'round: only difference is what party runs what districts, in relation to how fast the work gets done (union kickbacks, 'ya know...)...in L.A. a road can be tore up for years, yet next door in Long Beach, a road can be tore up & completely replaced with a new one in a matter of a month or two!
Go figure...
