I was just killing some time online tonight when I Googled the name of a friend who passed away about two years ago just on a whim. He was a well known person to anyone in the business world, President & CEO of a large company involved in a glamour industry, a businessman/celebrity of sorts. If you weren't in the business world, you probably would never have heard of him, but everyone knows the products his company produced. About 5 years older than me, he was a mentor, our families were good friends, and they were also patients of my father.

I clicked on the Wickipedia entry for his name in Google, and it was all downhill from there. Yes, it listed his date of birth, date of death, and all his worldly accomplishments. It had a few snippets about his family too. But so much was missed, so much of what I knew of him.

His wife was a hometown girl from the town we all went to high school in. She used to play at our house as a small child. I don't know how many times my mother recounted the story of the time we were playing in our yard and she crashed through the sliding glass door and cut herself and we had to rush her to the hospital. They were high school sweethearts. They were in love to the end.

I shouldn't have Googled it.

DR, what a perfect opportunity for you to add to his wiki. As his friend, you could add so much to what his business associates know about him.

It would be a living testament to a friend...and may make you feel a little better too.

I'm sorry Wikipedia did not do your friend justice. Sometimes things ARE better left unknown.........

While a simple bio can never be the full measure of a person, the wonder of Wiki is that you can add to most posts.

Why don't you give him justice here

What I meant was not to complain about the Wikipedia article. It was all accurate to my knowledge, and did a reasonable job of outlining his professional bio -- which clearly was its purpose.

I think that adding personal anecdotes to that article would be out of place. It was more like a professional piece.

What my comments meant was that I was saddened by the coldness of reading it, simply because I knew the person beyond his career accomplishments. That is no fault of anyone... except me perhaps for not just letting it go.

I'm not much on writing publicly about personal things like this, so I don't think I would want to write any more about it here.

Some things are best left unexplored. I think that was my point. I meant it to be taken generally rather than trying to focus on my specific personal example.

That's not to say your comments and suggestions were not appreciated.
