I have a new toy!
I love new toys, things that keep me occupied while Greggs at work.
No not that.
I was clicking around yesterday afternoon, and found a great site for designing your own mugs, T shirts and greetings cards, no not that moon pig thing, you can even design the words inside too for printing and this site sends you your card for you to sign before sending, And whats more, you can actually sell your designs! I never say no to making extra dosh!
It’s Gregg’s birthday on the 30th, so I’ve designed a card, I think he’ll love it. He better had.
It got me thinking of toys I had as a child, I wasn’t your normal girlie girl, I did have dolls however, and I remember a doll called >Tressy< where you pressed her back and her hair grew, I think they’re making a Barbie like that now. I wonder how much she would be worth if I’d kept her. 1960’s toys go for quite a lot these days if they’re in good condition, especially if their still in their box which of course is quite rare.
My mother still has her children’s sewing machine, a miniature ‘Singer’, exact in every way but small for a child, made in 1940!
I also liked Meccano, Lego and anything to do with Bat man, (I told you I wasn’t your normal girlie girl) lol
Dad said when I was little I used to dance to the batman tune.. “dad a dad a dad a dad da…….Bat man!”
I loved that series, its funny when you see old episodes now how cheap their sets looked, and how the walls wobbled, but you didn’t think of that as a kid.
Few of my toys stayed with me over the years, Jacko my monkey, and a Koala bear my granddad bought for me when I was 5 made with real kangaroo skin have though, , very un p.c now of course!
We didn’t think at the time, that our toys would one day be on the antiques road show!
Sometimes I wished I’d kept some of my own daughter’s toys, because one day they too may be in the hands of a collector being sold at auction.
Once loved and enjoyed by children…
Years later to be sold as rare toys….
Yet no matter the financial value….
The love given by the children….
And the enjoyment and smiles each one brought…
Even the memories they leave them as they grow…
Has a worth… far greater than money.

My sisters and I weren't much into dolls when we were kids, we liked the outdoor fun, riding bikes, skateboards, and just playing outside. Toys we did have were more like the bags of toy animals and such. Mom did buy us dolls, don't get me wrong, but our dolls never lasted too long.

I have the pieces of my kid(s) toys....with great intentions of putting the pieces back in the correct box...ect...why in such array? Because after moving withOUT packing correctly...just move stuff in a hurry and deal with it later...well...later has come...
I have storage units in a town 90 mi from here with boxes of the toys and clothes and pure junk too..
I was so upset with my mama when she was keeping my childhood toys for me...(like the Blue Willow tea set) then she decided they were taking up too much room and sold them in a garage sale! Not even an estate sale!
And didn't even give me the $$$ for my "treasures"...
I have(if I can find it...) the Michael Jackson action figure doll...(like a Ken doll) but I think his glove is lost...
I do need to "finish" cleaning out the ...er...toy box and get rid of stuff...My stepsons are out of touch and have been for 15 yrs...but my daughter doesn't want any "clutter"....so it is up to me to "get rid of that stuff"...
Oh to be "uncluttered.....what is the word for that??
.... oh yeah.......
ABNORMAL!!!

The thing is ... much loved toys get played with, dribbled on, broken, repaired and repaired again ... they wouldn't be worth much no matter how old they became. It's only the stuff we didn't like that we never took out of the boxes and ended up being given away that's worth anything. I know some collect toys but I fail to see the pleasure in just looking at them when we're kids, it also seems a bit weird to me to want to just look at them when we're grown up too ... ... but I guess it takes all sorts and there's certainly a market out there for old toys ... who would have thought it. I expect the free toys from McDonalds & Burger King will be worth a fortune one day because although they were mass produced, they were limited editions and pretty much everyone throws them away in the end. I've even thrown away some that were still sealed up in their bags ... I bet some toy collector out there in the future would give his right arm for something like that. There's nowt as strange as folk.

I never had "much loved toys", possessions have never been important to me, even when young. How we all differ?

I am afraid to think back to recall my childhood toys..... one that I really liked was an electric train.....
I have had for many years the urge to create another electric train layout..... I started once and gave up...
A project for the future......!!!

When I moved from L.A. to Visalia, I left my old Legos for the nephews/nieces, but I kept my (tall, late '60's/early '70's)G.I. Joes, the O-gauge Lionel trains, and the Mighty Tonka toys (all metal), along with a few Mighty Tonka "knock off's" that Sears used to sell.
Whilst going through a thrift store in Vegas back around '04, I stumbled upon a talking Pee Wee Herman doll, still in the box, and it still talks!!!
