Did I miss Christmas? Thanksgiving?

Did I miss New Years? What year is it?

Is winter almost over?
I hope so....
I am sick of it. It's almost over, right?

Wasn't it like just a few days ago it was summer and all?
What happened? How did I miss Thanksgiving?

Seems like it's been winter about long enough now. It has been snowing for days, off and on....thick dark low hanging cloud cover. Cutting off the tops of the mountains. Hanging there like an impenetrable curtain of split pea soup.
Speaking of soup.....
I was peacefully sleeping behind my desk, until Tom from the Cottage Cafe walked in with a large cup of homemade French Onion Soup. And a piece of warm homemade bread with room temperature butter on it...Said he was closing his cafe for the day, and I crossed his mind, so he stopped in with a late lunch. Just so happens I was starving. He always seems to know.

And then he left.....and as the door swung shut, and I sat there watching it snow.....I was brought back to my senses by...Soup and warm Bread!

An unusual human being that Tom is.
His love is self evident. It shows.
It's my turn now...but I will wait a while....

He and his stunningly beautiful wife will have a couple bottles of some really good wine for their Turkey Day....

I'd bring him something to eat but....hmmm...he owns The Cottage.....there is nothing that could compare....not from my kitchen anyway. But I know they enjoy good wine, and I will rise to the occasion. Like a loaf of warm bread.

Winter is almost over.....right?

RIGHT?

Yep, colors are pretty much at their peak now. It is glorious to see. And oh! The apple cider! mmmmmmmmm! Yeah, time to go out and get some fresh cider.

There is something about winter and snow that brings people together .. everyone bakes and enjoys the smells of baking cookies and breads and then there is the soup and chilli and the hot toddys ... hmmmmmm .. I think I like winter.

Last I looked it was 1940 and Tracy Lord was about to marry George Kittredge with strong objections by C. K. Dexter Haven. But, then I fell asleep and time fast forwarded a bit. I woke up in the '80's somewhere and Anthony Robbins was trying to sell me a new life complete with a yatch and a harem of women. I passed. Probably a mistake, but oh well...

Warm yourself in these cold winter nights, my friend, for it is not often that we are faced with such deliberate contrast in heart of nature (and it makes soup that much more good).

Thats why I love living in a small community...we always make enough soup, chili, spaghetti sauces, etc to take to someone that happens to be in need of a warm up for whatever reason..or just to share with a good friend...

I wouldn't trade this kind of living for anything...
