Rising

The sun rose today.
Somehow I didn’t
think it would or
could, given our
destructive bent.
Does the sun ever
weep, or does it
merely keep watch
over light and heat?
A radiant star,
perhaps its tears are
every spark seen
in the heavens.

Nature cries beyond
raining skies. I can hear
it. I can feel its Spirit
rising and falling, calling
us back, beseeching us
to be gentle with the
earth, to treat precious
our brothers and
sisters, loving rather
than bombing, living
rather than killing.

The sun rose today,
exactly why I can’t say.
Maybe the reason is
simply Love; the sun
won’t leave us to our
own abandon, just like
the hand of God, just
like the Soul of God,
it will rise again
and
again.

The sun rose today.
Somehow I knew it could.
Somehow I knew it would.
