several years ago, I wanted to move back to boston. I had $16,000 saved to move which was plenty to start on. Well, at the time, I really thought I was going to do it. I was 21 years old. But, my father was still around and I didn't want to leave him. Main reason I wanted to go, honestly, I liked the city and I LOVED my Boston sports teams. Yea, those were my main reasons.
Now, 7 years later, I actually think I'm going to do so. Not to Boston, but to Illinois out in the country. I've made one trip, in August for 2 weeks, which was the only time I've ever been there. I fell for that place in an instant. Nice little small town,of 20,000 out in the country, away from the city with all the punks and gangs and drugs, crime etc....................I've never really been away from all family I've always had some kind of family around. But even though I was only there for a few weeks, It felt different this time around. I've done my homework, and It's much cheaper, you're away from everything, but if you want to go to the city, it's about 1.5hr drive which isn't too bad. I didn't think I'd really like it in the country even though things I like doing are out in the country. I've lived in the city my whole life. Going to take another trip in early December just to make sure it's what I really want.
I called a Hm Depot for the hell of it to see how hard it would be to transfer there from the store I work at. Being that it's the ONLY home depot serving 50 miles of customers, I thought there were very slim chances. I was just curious. So I asked to speak with the manager and wouldn't you know it, they have the same position I'm working now, same hours, available come August. I didn't quite want to move that soon, but I will be able to have about $7-8000 behind me before the move so I'm sure I'll be fine to get started on.
Home rent is much cheaper, utilities, I don't quite understand why, are much cheaper, and sales tax I've never really been 100% on my own, but I really want to do it and it feels real this time. I think about it every day. I've never been this excited. Even when I wanted to go back to Boston where I'm from, I wasn't this excited. Every night when i go to bed it feels like I'm falling asleep to wake up and leave the next morning. No friends out there or family either. If I have problems while I'm out there, I CREATED THEM, and I'll deal with it. I kind of want to start fresh, (go ahead and laugh) before I'm too old and still young enough. but it's time to START SOMETHING ON MY OWN.

I love small town living.
Ask "what is there?", and the big cities look good.
Ask "What is my portion?", and the small towns look great.
Some of the benefits are:
With fewer people, I began to associate with people of all ages.
With few activities to watch, I began to more actively live my life.
Knowing I would probably see the person again, I took the little extra patience to be polite.
I am a lot closer to the beauties of nature.
With fewer trips to the "big city" I became more organised.
With lower real estate values, I became a home owner in stead of a renter.
If I wanted something to happen, like a weekly music jam, I organised it and made it happen.
And yes, Aa move is a good opportunity to start over, doing things better.
Good Luck!

Go for it!
Do it while you can...cause you never know when you can't...and will wish you had.......
No more Phoenix heat...lol....but now you can enjoy(I think) the seasons that *most* people experience.....
I am in an isolated "small town" that the nearest movie theater is 70 mi away....but...who cares? Movies come out on TV and video/cd and can be rented...One doesn't have to follow the Joneses....
In a small town,, and "on your own" you will find people willing to help...well...maybe...unless you are in a small town like where I am...and people will..."help you ...IF..." Here you are an outsider unless you were born here or born to someone born here!
If you can have a job and change locations...then what is holding you back???
Get packed and ready to be there as soon as possible....The computer will travel so MD is going with you...lol...
Go forth and conquer!
