first blog.............Ok, well I havent really traveled a whole lot but I can say this. Phoenix is a very strange city. I've always said this to people out of state and lots of people don't believe me. Well, lets see, it was 48 degrees last night. Time to put the heat on right? now today, it's 81 degrees, Time for the air conditioning. How many places do you really know of that you can have the a/c as well as the heat running in the same day. well, Phoenix is one of those cities. It kind of drives me crazy. All I can say is, at least we dont have gas in this house as well as most in phoenix.
2nd blog, time to break out the ramen............I've got $7 to last me till the 9th of Nov for food. It's time to start eating some ramen. Most people would say I'm crazy but think of the children and others that have nothing. That would be a feast for lots of people who have nothing which is why I don't really complain about it. It's a pretty dam good meal if you think about it like that and really we are lucky to be able to even have that if we can every day because lots of people would pray to have that every day.
Just a few things on the tip of my head thats all

1 The old timers had a solution to that. Eighteen inches of adobe wall holds the day's heat til night, and the early mornings coolness for the day.
2 You are in good dining company. Here are a few suggestions on ramen: http://www.matchdoctor.com/blog_77716/Best_Way_To_Eat_Ramen_or_The_Bachelor_s_Friend.html

1. Instead of 18 inches of adabe try 8 inches of insulation. Works just as well in my polebarn house.
2. I spend $8 a day for food and drink, unless I splurge. Then I spend $12. I've even been known to go all out and spend a wopping $90, but she has to be really cute.

Phoenix and only a 40 degree difference in temp? That is NOT unusual at all!
We have that all the time out here in West Texas! plus....WIND!!!
But I just acclimate myself and it is easy to live with the temp differences...and I don't have a/c often nor do I have heating in all rooms...
It has been 33 to 45 at night and 60 to 85 during the day. When it is hot outside...I wear very little clothes, and if 110 or more...just mist my bare body and let nature evaporate and cool me. If it is cold, I just stay in bed or at least wear lots of clothes...including gloves to type here when needed...
I don't have huge utilities either....I try to be the same as the weather...and I DON'T get sick with colds and respiratory problems like I did before I was here in this DRY environment!
So ...living on Ramen noodles and "matching Mother Nature" is the "New Frugality"....
Others will be copying it soon..'cause they are being forced to do so... The middle class is disappearing...so if you are NOT on top...then it is best you know how to survive on the bottom of the pile!

Fran, the temp difference doesn't really bother me, but lot's of people in Phoenix in general it does, just to clarify. Yea but we get this maybe for 1 month out of the year and usually it's like a 15 degree difference in temperature. if its 100 outside, it's like maybe 88-90 for the low. But we always have that month in there to transition
