They are especially eerie for me... because they are TRUE.
1)When I was eight years old, we lived in a fairly modern house, built around 1960. My bedroom was a large room at the back of the house. I covered the walls with pop posters and soft toys filled each corner, but there was something else about this room.. it was something I couldn’t see… until one night.
I woke to feel a weight on my bed, I looked slowly over my covers, eyes peeping over the top of the sheets I was gripping tightly. A woman was sitting on my bed, she didn’t speak nor look at me, she just… sat there. She looked old by her clothes, I couldn’t see all of her face because she had her head dropped as if deep thinking or praying. I closed my eyes and hid back under the covers my heart beating fast. I guess I must have eventually fell asleep. The next day I told my mother who said I was dreaming. But I knew I wasn’t.
2) When I was 10, my grandma told me about a house she was a maid in. She worked for a Lord and Lady in Bath in a huge mansion. Her bedroom was way up in the attic with all the other employees’ rooms. One night when carrying a candle up the wooden staircase, she saw a woman in white, almost nun like, walk from one room in to another. My Grandma told the cook, but the cook said she was imagining things.
Years later the big mansion was taken over by a college and soon the mansion was filled with students.
A friend and neighbour came down to my Grandma with a news clipping from the local news paper.
“I found this, the neighbour said, I thought you may be interested because I know you worked there.”
The news report said…
‘Students of Kelston manor have reported seeing a lady in white roaming the house and grounds.’
The report was written 65 years after my grandma told the cook what she saw.
3) I lived in a large 5 bedroomed house that was once occupied by Oliver Cromwell. The house was filled with beams and original mouldings and fireplaces.
I don’t know if it was Oliver who haunted my house, or who it was, but some very odd things happened in that house. Our dogs would bark at walls, the cat would stare passed our shoulders at nothing. Items would disappear and reappear, once a set of keys vanished, leaving a clean spot in some light dust. We searched everywhere for those keys, then one day they reappeared, exactly in the same spot, and in exactly in the same position as they originally were before, and not a speck of dust disturbed.
Many people were scared to stay overnight in my house, my mother wouldn’t even let the children go to bed when she babysat because she was so nervous.
Didn’t worry me any, I think whoever it was, was friendly.
Years after my experience in my bedroom with the sitting lady… My mother eventually confessed that she also heard and saw strange things in my bedroom, but just didn’t want to frighten me.
Happy Halloween everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
