When I look back at my life, I can think of several of those moments when I laughed till I cried,... but there was one particular one I would like to share... it happened about 25 years ago.
I was working in an electronic corporation as a machine operator. I had made several friends there, and among them there were three ladies that were also friends with each other. We became pretty inseperable, and especially when we had earned an hour lunch (which we normally only had a half an hour), we would all go out to lunch. It was always fun and I enjoyed it a lot.
Well, it soon became a tradition on our days off (we all worked the same 12 hour shift so had the same days off), that especially when one of us had a birthday or when a holiday was near by, we would again go out together.
The big MOMENT that this blog is about happened one year around the holidays. We had agreed to exchange names for the purpose of getting a christmas gift for the person who's name we had chosen.
I did a little research and learned that the lady who's name I had drawn loved anything brass. So, I went shopping and found her the cutest brass mouse. When the day came to meet the girls for our holiday luncheon, I was running a little late. I grabbed the present, and wrapped it. Fortunately it really didn't look that badly when I was finished, lol.
I arrived a few minutes late and they had already been there a few minutes. I hated that as anyone that knows me realizes that I am normally the one there early. Anyway, it was a gorgeous place. One like I had never even seen before... with tropical flowers growing inside and a tree growing up through the restaurant!!
It was a semi formal atmosphere and a beautiful way to celebrate the holiday season. We had a great lunch, talking and giggling about so many things. Soon, it was time to open the gifts and I was excited because I just knew that the gift I bought would be a hit with the lady that it was meant for.
We all opened our gifts at the same time. I paused cause I just had to see her face. She opened it... but the look I anticipated just was not there. I couldn't understand until it happened..... she pulled out some weird stuff!! There was a beaded belt, many sizes too small and a feather clip for the hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was stuff from 15 years before!!!! There was NO mouse!
I had wrapped up the wrong box and after frantically assuring her that I DID have a gift, but it must be home.... there was a long pause.... and THEN, the laughter started and we all laughed until we cried and could no longer breath!!!!
People were staring, but not laughing, and that made the moment even funnier!!! There's NO WAY I would ever forget those fun times!!!!!!!!!!!!
