She couldn’t make friends easily as a child, other kids noticed that she was different, and kids can be cruel when they notice anything that doesn’t display ‘normal’.
Yet this never dissuaded her from being friendly to them, constantly ignored and left out of games or party invites, she would share her candy and invite them to her birthday celebrations… but they never came.
Often seen playing alone in the school yard with her favourite toy the hoop, whilst the other children played in groups, she adorned a smile and sang to herself.
School work was hard, sat with children who wouldn’t speak to her; she struggled to keep up, but would always hand in what she did with a smile for the teacher.
Never embarrassed about her work that was displayed on the classroom walls, appearing so obviously different from the others; she would still point with pride to what she had done.
Never chosen when children were asked to pair up, always the last, she would still take part with enthusiasm and glee.
Never seeing a bad trait in anyone, everyone was a potential friend, her gentle nature and funny smile lifted the hearts of adults, while children just saw her as strange.
Her little heart broke when her dog was run over and killed by her house, she made a little wooden cross that her dad helped her to put together and they put it in the ground together. Her small hands clasped together, she prayed for God to look after him.
Her pain ignored by children at school, never stopped her from comforting another. A little girl, new at school, frightened and tears in her eyes, She put her arms around her and told her it would be ok.
When kids would laugh at her, she would laugh with them, not seeing bad intentions, merely believing that she was just funny, and after all, some attention was better than none.
Her contagious laughter and innocent blue eyes would melt the adult hearts.
Through life she grew, a lonely child, her family the only ones that treasured her for all she was.
A young woman now, her eyes still sparkle with mischief, her caring nature still remains, undamaged by ridicule.
Never wanting pity, not even asking for help, she has grown in to a beautiful young lady.
She never forgets a birthday, often writing to school friends past, yet never getting a reply, she stays unscathed.
Her gentle heart cares for souls who need… Yet never questions why others rarely care for her in return.
For hers is the heart that is precious….
Her love for people and animals remains unchanged…
She is light and happiness… never judging…
She is truly pure at heart…
And I am proud to call her my daughter.

That's almost an accurate description of my niece. She's been through a lot in her 16 years, kids teasing her, and then being a victim of a pedophile. But yet, she still sees the good in people, adores all animals. She has a very kind heart, even though others have shown her how cruel they can be. She was teased by other kids because she wore an eye patch to cure a lazy eye. It didn't work, so she has since been wearing a type of bi focal since kindergarten, and as long as she has her glasses on, her eye stays straight. Take them off, and her left eye will cross inward. And she's been teased nonstop about it. But, she still reaches out to help the kid in need. She's a good kid.
Another excellent blog.

Someone needed to be mother to her...someone who would cherish her for what she has to offer and who she is....
I think God knew what He was doing when He choose you to be her mother....

What a heart warming story... your daughter sounds like a treasure which is fitting because she has a gem for a mother. I'm so glad she never let others dictate who and what she was going to be and do.
Thanks for sharing your daughter with us
