Well, I guess your never too old to learn something. I was talking to my dads girlfriend on the phone again last night about what happened in maine. She fought for gay rights and was upset that the article failed. I tried to explain to her that democracy isnt about what is right, its about what the majority wants.

The judges can sit there and say the law discriminates and throw out the election, see california. The will of the people is not absolute.

I dont see it as a form of discrimination. I see it as more of a pwer grab by the gay community. A "lets force this upon them" menality. Why can't they be happy with civil unions? Thats about as much of a a compromise as anyone is getting. The only thing with that is there would need to be legislation to assure that civil unions have the same rights as married couples.

For the record, I am NOT standing up for christian morals. The church has defined marrige, what it is and how it should be. That would be like you telling microsoft to make programs for apple. (its funnier if you know bill gates history with apple) Just because you are a mac user, why should you hve your way and force something on to people who dont want it in the first place? Maybe that was a bad analogy. But you get the idea though.

My main point to her was, that you have to understand that for some, possibly most people, that gay marrige is that one line in the sand they WONT cross. Is it right? I dont think so. It infringes on peoples rights to do what they want. But, it is what the majority wants..... or dont want.

Personally I don't like the idea of the government having the authority to decide who can marry whom.
A marriage license is a couple getting official permission to be together. Where in the Constitution is the government given such power?

Of course there have to be certain limits because benefits and retirement checks get involved and the rights of children etc have to be protected. But as far as two consenting adults wanting to be together I don't think that's generally anybody's business but their own.

I was upset to hear about the voting as well. I believe now all 31 states that tried to legalize gay marriage have voted not to allow gays any marriage rights.

I don't see "gay marriage" as a rights issue.

They have the same right to form unions as anyone else.

They DON"T have the right to change the dictionary to prosteletize their point of view.

They have the right to do what they want. They don't have the right to make me agree that is a normal relationship. I get to have my opinion too.

And most voters appear to agree with me.

To each, his/her own.

I don't see any problem if it doesn't hurt anyone else.

When will people stop trying to force their beliefs on others.

If you don't like it, don't worry about it.

Just don't try to change my beliefs.

You'll just piss me off and make me hate you and what you stand for.
