Twice this week I was reminded how easily people give out information told to them in confidence.
I think I'm good at keeping secrets. People who know me respect that I'm not a blabber-mouth running around telling stories about other people... especially them.

For years I supported myself as a free-lance design draftsman. When business was good, many shops could afford to hire me to take on projects they couldn't normally handle. They all knew my experience. They all knew I worked for different companies in and around South Florida. No secrets there and no secrets to share. What I knew about these companies was between me and them.

There was a time I was doing drafting work for two cabinet shops that were in direct competition to each other. One occasion, an owner asked specific questions about the other shop... I replied "I don't divulge information about the other shops I do work for. But if it's OK with you, I'd like permission to share your private information to them too."


Being really honest can have it's moments. I have lied to a person pumping me for information. I told him it was privileged information that couldn't be repeated. Amazingly, he tried to use this and it backfired on him. He was annoyed with me... complaining that I told him a lie. My response was he couldn't be trusted and that he just failed a small test.

So ends another blog. Before I go, I'd like to tell ya I overheard today. Something really important... wanna know what it is?
