I know your not suppose to ask questions in the blogs but this is an emergency. I've had a dripping faucet in the bathtub and I turned the handle too far and now its stripped. Good thing its in the off position or I'd never be able to turn it off. Are their any folks out there that can give me some suggestion so I could fix it temporaily so I can have a shower tomorrow? I don't have many tools ..just a small wrench and plyers and a hammer and screwdriver.

Pop the cap in the middle of the handle out. You'll see a phillips head screw back in the hole, unscrew that then pull the handle off. Now you can use the pliers to grip the splines on the shaft to turn it off and on. What is stripped is the splines inside the handle. You can find replacement handles at most hardware stores. Good luck !!

Moon you took my comment! Borty, be careful not to strip the brass with your pliers...it's quite soft and then the new handles won't fit! I've actually fixed them with JB Weld before and they hold pretty well. You can buy repair kits at the hardware store too....

be careful not to strip the splines on the stem of the valve.
An alternative, to protect those splines, is to take off both handles, and use the good one to work both valves until you can make the repair.
The repair is....

Don't you have to turn off the water first? I had to replace the faucets in the tub area, but I had bath fitter do that for me since they were doing a tub enclosure for me and bathtub cover. A regular plumber could probably do it cheaper.

GOOGLE SEARCH,,,
How to replace washers in a bathtub.
The worn out washers are causing the leak. You cranking down on the valves is only going to damage the seats on the inside of the valves, making an easy repair turn into an expensive repair for a plumber.
Replace the washers,,, and then put on new handles.
It's not that hard. But, if you feel it is over your head after you google search the cure,,, it's a common enough repair that a neighborhood guy knows how to do it,,, and would problably do it for a six pack and a pizza.
And as much as hate to endorse other sites, you can get some real good pointers on something like this with Yahoo Answers also.

I was going to make a comment about the washers. I do this crap for a living. Its most likely the washer at the end of the faucet handle. If you do get a washer kit, make sure you get the right one. If you can shut the sink off and take the washer with you, the better things will turn out. Nothing pisses me off more than when you get it installed turn the water on and then realize that the clerk sold you the wrong damn thing.
