Warning: This blog is going to offend people. I am aware of this, and I am not going to apologize for it because frankly I don't care. I know who I am talking about and who I am not and if you interpret my blog incorrectly that is not my problem...it's yours.
As time goes on, I become more and more convinced that 9/11 has become more and more an excuse for companies to sell t-shirts, bumper stickers, and tiny flags made in China to people who did not even live close to New York or know anyone who experienced 9/11. I also become convinced that these same people are the ones who are just not letting 9/11 go. They're the people who listen to songs about 9/11 and talk constantly about it, waving their flags and spouting their crap eight years later like they've got PTSD even though they weren't there and they don't even know anyone who was affected.
They are the ones who after it happened started saying shit like "it could happen here!" I was thirteen and I remember rolling my eyes and thinking to myself "give me a god damned break. The terrorists don't care about Everytown, USA, population: 300 people. They don't want to bomb your local Wal Mart or your local watering hole. They want the Sears Tower, the Space Needle, the Empire State Building, and the Golden Gate Bridge. You know, shit that matters." I remember when people in my little not even dot on the map town of Vernon (I know you've never heard of it) started saying "oh something might happen...we have satellite dishes". How ridiculous...they're television dishes.
I wish these Southerners and Midwesterners (sorry to say, but that's usually what they are) would buck up and let it go. I wish that they'd stop using something that didn't touch them as an excuse to be bigots hiding behind a flag and some slogan. I wonder if they even had a flag on their porch more than three or four times a year before 9/11. I bet they walk around with their "FDNY" hats when they probably didn't even know crap about the Fire Department of New York City before...and I bet if they did they didn't give a shit.
They talk about "I never forgot 9/11, sorry if you did". Don't spout that shit at me, or anyone else who lived through that. We live pretty close to New York City. My cousin still suffers from having smoke surrounding him on all sides while he helped the people who were choking and lying down on the streets. He lost his marriage because he became depressed and turned to alcohol. He will never, ever be the same. My uncle saw them come down, and he changed afterward, too. He just hasn't talked as much since then. My friend's mother's childhood priest died at Ground Zero because he was giving the dying their last rites. A teacher in my school lost a daughter. There are countless other stories that I've got. And also...my father was in Pennsylvania that day. I was so worried he was near that crash site. Don't tell me I forgot about 9/11 just because I am leery about blaming the Muslim religion for some guy shooting up a military base, the President messing up the country, or hating on Islam in general. I am educated about the religion and I'm not stupid enough to believe it preaches hate. Turn off whatever television show or radio program that's filling your head with bullshit and study the Q'uran...open your mind.
If you live in Maryland or Virginia and lost someone at the Pentagon, or you really did lose someone in the Pennsylvania or New York attacks..this is not about you and I cannot make that clear enough. This is about people who were not involved at all and are using the attacks as a way to be fear-mongers and ignorant bigots.
New Yorkers and everyone else in this region who lost people, who got injured, and all the rest of us...we picked up and moved on. You know why? Because that's the Italian, Irish, Hispanic, black, and Jewish spirit (honestly, that's what makes up the majority of NJ/NY). That's the New York and New Jersey spirit. We pulled ourselves up by our boot straps, mourned the tragedy, and started to rebuild. And most of us are not sitting around hiding behind our flags and our bumper stickers and our manufactured bullshit pretending that all this material crap makes us "patriots".
September 11th should serve as a reminder to people...not as an excuse to sell and buy shit or an excuse for you to be ignorant and hateful.
BTW- if you want to call me a liberal whackjob or say I'm not a "patriot", go ahead. It says more about you than it does me...

Sorry this is going to offend some people, and I know who I am talking about and who I am not.
You are too young to understand the importance of NEVER FORGETTING incidents like 9/11.
Like the Haulocost, or the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the terrorist attack on 9/11 must ALWAYS stay fresh in our minds as a reminder that, as Ronald Reagan so brilliantly said, "Freedom is Never More Than One Generation Away From Extinction."
Some day you will understand.

The selling and marketing of all the memorabilia isn't about being patriotic, its about making money. It's capitalizing on pain and suffering just like the health care corporations make their millions capitalizing on sickness and death.

Can honestly say I remember as my cousin was at the Pentagon that day and my sister lives outside Pittsburgh where one of the planes went down. I remember seeing it on TV and being unable to find out anything about either one of them all day. And no, we must not forget because it can happen "anywhere" even in little podunk towns. Waving a flag does not make you patriotic, it makes you a flag waver. Our culture is not far from extinction at all. And that is because while the muslim population still grows at a terrific rate, ours has slowed down. Our culture is not reproducing at a fast enough rate to ever catch up. So our culture will die, maybe not in my lifetime, but more than likely in our childrens lifetime.

Of course I agree that trivializing such a somber and important event is not especially respectful. But selling tee shirts and trinkets is part of the American way and contributes to the economy. And the things they say are protected by the laws of free speech. It's the way we do things in America.
I don't believe that those who support keeping the memory of 9/11 alive, and insist on being very detailed about what happened and who was responsible for it are being hateful. I believe rather that they are being patriotic and supporting the cause of freedom by keeping the memories fresh.

This blog has some excellent views....
If we hang on to the negative emotions from the past, those events are bound to repeat in the future....
Although we are wise to remember and to guard against recurrence in the future, maintaining the resents and hates will serve to manifest similar in the days ahead...
Well done LGQ.....!!

When it comes to economic policy, in fact, Reagan was right, and Obama is wrong. Many are now at the beginning of learning this lesson the hard way. Let's just hope that enough learn it, and reverse the course Obama has put us on, before the economy is in such bad shape that it is irredeemable.
There will always be those who seek to make profit off of the tragedy of others, and do things for monetary gain rather than concern for country. I'm not all that concerned about people selling t-shirts and memorabilia about 9/11. I'm much more concerned about losing the memories of acts of tyranny in the past and the effect it might have on preventing it from happening again in the future.
The Haulocost happened just a generation ago. Yet today there are those who deny it ever happened, including even heads of state. If not for the constant reminders, the museums, the meticulous documentation and the people dedicated to keeping the memory alive and preserving the truth, how will future generations ever know who to believe?
In your lifetime, there will be those who will deny 9/11 ever happened. There are already, and there were even mere months after it happened, those who attempt to distort the facts, deflect and explain away the blame, and cover up the truth.
To the extent that we allow this to happen, we deny the next generation the protection of the knowledge that we and our generation acquired through suffering, sacrifice and the courage to face the truth.

Reagan was a republican idiot who took the USA from a balanced budget to the biggest debtor nation in the world.
He made a speech about everyone paaying his fair share of California state tax. Mine as a carpenter , banging nails in the hot sun, was $158. That year, Mr. "fair share" Reagan paid nothing, zero, nada, zip. Governor, movie royalties, kickbacks, rancher, politician, he didn't pay one da_ _ed cent.
He was a phony and a four-flusher who drove us into debt by buying $400 hammers and such from his manufacturing buddies, wasting billions. He was a role model for George Bush..
Alsso, let's stay on topic, If you want to work in the jewish slaaughter, as is endlessly attempted in the media, be accurate.
All the holocaust museums, photos and all have not kept Isreal from doing the same thing to the Palestinians as was done to them, the only difference is that they now hold the whip, instead of having it on their own backs. If they want to learn from WW 2, they should start by ending their policy of starving the Palestinian women and children to death in Gaza.
There have been over ten slaughters greater than the saughter of jews in WW 2, but they are swept away by the media, and the jewish losses bemoaned endlessly, as Isreal plays the guilt card over and over, and recieve more than half ouUS foriegn aid. We didn't do it. Why are we paying them?
And while only a fool would deny the slaughter of jews in WW2, only a moron would believe all the propaganda about six million.. The first to deny the "six million" was the Red Cross, who were observers in the camps. Jewish organizations, AT THE TIME, said there were far fewer deaths.
Let the past go, or at least be accurate.

Even in the face of overwhelming evidence, there will be those who will deny the facts, based either on ignorance or hatred or both.
And that is why it is so important to preserve those facts, so that rational people will be able to discern the truth.

There will always be those who seek to make profit off of the tragedy of others, How do you know thats the motivation...it could be that they also want to keep the memory alive...The American population seems to be good at having to much fun..and not tending to business..how do you think our nation got in this big mess.??? I have no problem with those who make a living selling 9/11 shirts...everyone has to eat..and there are millions and millions out of work now..I say HIGH FIVE to those who choose to make their own living rather than suck off the tit of the government.

How do you know thats the motivation...it could be that they also want to keep the memory alive I don't know that the motivation of all people who sell 9/11 memorabilia is to profit from a tragedy, nor did what I say mean to imply that.
My guess is that some of them probably think it is a patriotic thing to do and others do it just to make a buck. Either way, it doesn't bother me much because the overall effect, no matter what their motivation, is to keep the memory alive and fresh, something I think is an important thing to do.
Since a previous commenter raised the question about how many Jews were murdered in the Haulocost, here is an authoritative reference that addresses that question for those who are interested:

If we are to survive as a people, a country, a civilization, we have to abolish war and conflict..... somehow we have to achieve peace and harmony.
We must never forget, however, if we continue to hate, war will continue to follow us and lead to destruction in greater quantity than we have seen...
We must move forward, leave the past, we must heal or we will be in this mess and a greater mess until we are finally destroyed.

I don't know about that. It sounds like an unachievable high hurdle to me.
Mankind and civilization has survived for millennia, while engaging in violence and wars throughout its history. War and violent conflict is clearly a natural part of human civilization. To expect it to ever be "abolished," or require it to end in order to believe there is any chance of survival seems counterintuitive, ignorant of history and unnecessarily pessimistic to me.

Now, please don't be offend by my comment.
First, how did ever come up with this concept, because this blog has no logic to it.
The vendors didn't put a fund together and give it to the terrorists who Murdered over 3000 innocent people.
Secondly, most of the people who bought the 9/11 stuff were people from NY/NJ. to attack people from the south and the midwest as though they are lesser people is simply wrong.
It's been over sixty years since the Jews were gassed or killed in so other horrible way, to forget or to put in a closet the horrendous events like these is to have history repeat itself.
Lastly, people didn't buy 9/11 shirts, hats...etc because they thought it was fun, they bought it to show the people families, sons, daughters, husbands wives..etc who died that day that too hurt from their great loss because it could have been their love one's who died that day.
It wasn't making profits for vendors or the Chinese.
This blog didn't offend me, rather you offend yourself with this sad naive blog, which shows you need learn what's it like to live in other people shoes before writing something like this. Then knead in some basic logic with some historical perspectives.

My cousin still suffers from having smoke surrounding him on all sides while he helped the people who were choking and lying down on the streets. It's sad to read how one American can be so insensitive to others who were not there on 911, nor experienced first hand the tragedy that took place on 911. That's like saying because someone wasn't at the side of a family member who died they don't really share the same pain. This Nation Mourned the lost of all those who lost their lives and applaud those who had the means to help those in need. Furthermore many of these "So Called Anti -Patriots" who have sold flags t-shirts and hats, donated large portions and often times all profits to the families and survivers, So you know not what you say....
Tears were shed all over this nation on 911 and people who couldn't be there to help, sent and paid for others who could travel or help out, New York and New Jersey, didn't re-build them selves, they were funded and supported by a nation of Patriots, and yes Southern and Mid-Western Patriots, who actually contributed more then Lip Service glossed over with a Queen -Bee attitude, that reflects less then steller thinking. I know New York and New Jersey and have many great friends there, also travel there when I have a chance, and all my friends are very greatful to the Nation for responding to the tragedy of 911. Many who are Latino's, Puerto Ricans who were ther and working either in the towers or close by, they are and were old enough to know and see what was happening.
The shooter at Fort Hood was a radical Muslim and did all the same things every other Islamic radical muslim has done before killing innocent people, If you can't see that your not paying attention to the events that led up to it.If your truly educated, you will know that the Quran is not a peaceful book and it promotes women being subsurvient to men, If you have any doubts about how wonderful women are treated by Muslims ask Charli...she knows first hand.
I find your blog not very well thought out and lacks facts and substance, taking shots at and or stance against Americans who love this country and trying to minumize what this Jihadest has done slaughtering 13 Americans and wounding some 28 others, was a massacure of Americans, you call that peaceful? I call that Stupid.... The only colors I see running are the those who willfully ignore the facts. This is the worst massacure of Americans on US soil since 911, and yes it was done by a Jihadest who was Anti-American, and milked this country for all he could get, before killing his fellow soldiers.

Please...we are being a bit harsh to her....don't you think? After all, this is her opinion and feelings on the subject, and I understand what she is TRYING to say...it just came out in a way to stir up the rest of us who disagree.
Sure...there are those small percentage of people that tried to profit from this horror...a very small percent...but you will find them anywhere...the majority of people realized they had become too lacadaisical concerning the safety in our country, and all of a sudden we had to wake up...BIGTIME! This wasn't war overseas....this was war on civilians from the North, South, East, and West...including the Midwest, of the USA. These were people with the blood of every country in the world....men, women, and dear children, who were just doing what we all do everyday, but happened to be in NY.
From Coast to coast we sat *together* for days and cried as we united in the unbelievable horror that dared to infiltrate our sense of security.
I wasn't alive during the Holocaust, but I wanted to KNOW everything I possibly could..the truths and pictures, vidios, and memories from ones that were there...To be informed. To NEVER forget, lest another madman tries again. And the attempt WILL be there...we can't sit back and think it won't. That's what we did BEFORE 9/11.

I think I see what she's getting at:
the "commercialization" of 9/11.
It didn't happen after Pearl Harbor - instead, we fought back with everything this country had, and then some. unfortunately, times change, and nowadays the average person has too much on their minds to be bothered. Thus, they forget, and instead of cheering our troops that are going after the bad guys, they say "Gee - it isn't over YET? How much more is this gonna cost? How many more lives will be lost?"
To top it all off, political parties decide to use the war on terror as fodder for debate, in order to raise their own party to power.
Things were much simpler during the Cold War: we went after bad guys all over the world, took them out, and the public didn't hear about it.

I read your comments on bardnsage blog, as you suggested, but I am none the wiser about the meaning of this blog.
I will however give my view on 911.
911 will never be forgotten, it rocked the world. It was not a tragedy confined to the 'locals.'
People will deal with this in whatever way they see fit and are entitled. You have your way of dealing with this, other have theirs.
Personally, no, I didn't have a friend or relative who was killed or injured that I am aware. But the catastrophe will always remain and will never be forgotten.

Personally, I don't think anyone under the age of 40 could possibly start to grip on what 9/11 means to our country. Oh really, well what about a man who joined the Navy and became good friends with one of his fellow sailors. That fellow sailor was a crypto tech and stationed at the Pentagon. His life was taken away from him and his wife and 2 children. I watched the folded flag from his casket get handed to his wife while she cried in pain. I'm not 40, but do you think I can "start to grip it?"
Do you think I could possibly start to grip the significance of it when I was ass deep in sand setting up a Battalion Aid Station in Kabul? Or how about when I watched 3 Marines get blown to pieces at a check point outside of Jalalabad.
Think before you speak sir................

Just to add fuel to this fire...
One guy with a "muslim sounding name" whom is later identified to be a "devout muslim"... kills 13 people and wounds more.... it's considered by many to be a "terrorist attack"
One guy... asian... kills 32 people at Virginia Tech... and it's just a school shooting.
One guy.... black... has killed at least 11 people and buried them in or around his house and yard... and people are saying the guy was crzy and place the blame on the cops.
One guy... white... bombs a federal building in Oklahoma, and it's never considered to be a terrorist attack.
One guy... white... shoots up a mall a couple years ago... kills a few people... not considered a terrorist attack.
One person.... with any drop of Muslim blood/heritage/etc... is trying to destory the country...

I can see where you are coming from Lippy .. profiting from tragedy is wrong PERIOD.. be it selling of t shirts for profit or collecting $'s in a can on the roadside for a non existent loss in the family for funeral expenses(this is a new scam out here in cali) But to not remember?? sorry I cannot do that.. I watched the planes hit and got a call from my friend asking me to take care of her 4 girls she was being shipped out immediately (she is AF) I saw HER pain I saw the pain of my friends and I thanked the powers that be that I was able to help in the little way I did so that she could be there to defend and protect and lay to rest her fallen comrades...I remember donating $'s for the different funds to help those that lost families ...I would be a bit skeptical if I was asked for $ now tho... and really doesn't most everyone already have memorabilia?? T shirts etc? squeezing the last bit of $s from an already poor economy is nothing more than commercialism now... if one wants to remember?? than do just that .. go pay your respects at the memorials ..donate your time to help those affected ...or at least bow your head and thank them for their service...
