Well, funny that you see these stupid commercials for these anti-depressant drugs late at night.....is that because the only folks that are up watching are not working? Are looking for a job and have been looking for 6 months......maybe those folks are a bit depressed???? So lets sell this crap to them.
Yes, I am pissed....I am a single woman that has worked all her life....with kids after kids and now grandkinds....I am having a hell of a time finding a job. Yes, I am getting a bit depressed, who would not. It is hard , it is time comsuming and it takes over your life. It is a not easy, you have no money so you really have no life. So, you spend your entire day on the computer, sending resumes etc......so who would not be a bit depressed....hmmmm you could loose your house, your life....you have friends who have married men that make so much money they do not have to work....and they let you know. Needless to say that friend is being pushed to the side.
So, are the drugs really a fix? I don't think so.....life is hard.....it is really hard right now. But the last thing I need is to try to fix it it with some damn drug that has warnings of suicide side effects, does that make any sense? Not is my world.....yes there are some that do need meds.....and I do think that they can help some......but there is only bandaids for most. I have had my pity party's and felt sorry for myself....but that gets you know where. Stand up and be strong, talk to your real friends......not some damn drug! I lived in a family with a mom that was manic and depressed and suicidal......they did not have the drugs she needed when I was young. Thank god the finaly figured it out for her.......so I do not think that it is always a bad thing. If used correctly and when really needed.....but when you see it all over the TV saying that maybe you neeeeeeeed this drug????? It just pisses me off........it seems that everyone is looking for a quick fix, an easy way out.  No wonder that there are so many with drug issues......lets just hand them over as long as the BIG drug company's get the BILLIONS!! Oh, then there is healthcare......I am not even going into that....

On the weekends is about the only time im able to stay up late nite and watch tv.....and i do question some of the things they put on there for people to see.....sometimes i find them funny as hell.....other times i find them depressing......but no matter what.....i always have my trusty remote in hand to scan other channels......if it gets too boring.....i wont watch what i dont want to see....thats for sure.......its called freedom of choice........and i pay for it each month......  ......cookie

So, are the drugs really a fix? That depends. There are different levels & different severities of depression. Some depression can't be helped because the body is producing too much of a certain chemical that can only be controlled through medication. However, most depression CAN be dealt with without the need of medication, so I do see your point.

One of the primary symptoms of depression is insomnia, that is probably why you are seeing the commercials at that hour. I doubt it has anything to do with unemployment.

Please don't confuse a case of the temporary blues with clinical depression. You demean those who truly suffer from the disorder and you make yourself look petty.

I like how these drugs give you, sleeplessness, suicidal thoughts, anal bleeding, gas, diarrhea, blindness, constipation, peeling skin, toe nails fall off, lose all your hair.... but they cure your depression. LOL!
I'd be more depressed by the side effects. LOL!

I'm thinking that for the most part most of us have walked in your shoes figuratively speaking with the exception of all those kids and grandkids.
I very vividly recall many years ago wakening up and discovering I had only $3 to my name even though everything was paid for, food in the frig and an '69 El Camino in very good condition. It was still a grim and devistating awakening. I told myself "Self, this just isn't gonna happen again", and fortunely it hasn't.
On the DTV reception I get there are those ads you are speaking about along with the one with Happy Bob advertising Excite, the male enhancer ! Well, for my money I'd like to see some ads encouraging BIRTH CONTROL !!

Well,, when you purchase blocks of time for advertising,, your add package can include running the adds at many different times. And since late night, is a low volumne slot,,, the adds that go here are the left over spots from the day, and the low cost adds.
It's just an add. Unless of course you think there is some conspiracy to keep these drugs away from people who are watching during the day...
wait,,, Stepford wives,,,, evil drug companies,,, I think an idea is forming.

Not trying to offend anyone just irritated with the drug company's and all the TRILLIONS of dollars they make by pushing there drugs. (Maybe they should give me some of there money then I will be happy, lol) As, I said my mother was manic and had many issue' with depression and was pretty much sucidal most of my childhood....then about 15 years later she got the correct meds and lived a happier life for years. So I do know what it is like..... meds can work for some and some do need them. I just don't think that drug company's shouId be able to advertise there drugs on TV. I do not have issues sleeping just like to stay up late, a night owl....... I have always been that way. Yes, I might be a bit depressed but it has been almost 7 months with out a job....comes with the territory.

BULL!!!
Depression by definition is caused by disappointment, period. You set goals, create hopes and dreams, chase careers, invest in beautiful things, and suddenly they're destroyed by forces unseen. You work harder, and the treadmill speeds up, you buy a home, and the bank gets its claws deep into your flesh..... threatening to take it if you don't pay... and on and on.
Real unemployment (uncooked figures) is above 20%. The cooked figures the government gives doesn't include people who have exhausted their claims, gave up, or are working part-time, but want full-time.
Here's a hopefully helpful tip for people in crisis: If you can, do a search for homes for sale by any realtors, select the "under $10,000", and see what you find. I found many pretty decent homes for around $2500, and surprisingly, the ones that are priced at $20,000-$35,000 look identical in condition and type. Hope this helps someone out there.
