Scott_Brown_(politician) - Brown opposes a proposed tax on big banks that is designed to regain billions of taxpayer dollars in TARP funds - and to curb bank executive compensation practices since Brown, through a spokesperson, has said that "he is opposed to higher taxes, especially in the midst of a severe recession". As well, he has argued that the taxes would likely be passed onto consumers in the form of higher service and ATM fees - In the special election campaign in 2010, controversy erupted over an amendment Brown had sponsored in 2005, which, according to The Boston Globe, "would have allowed a doctor, nurse or hospital to deny rape victims an emergency contraceptive if it 'conflicts with a sincerely held religious belief.'"

As well, he has argued that the taxes would likely be passed onto consumers in the form of higher service and ATM fees Standard tactic of the oligarchy. "You can't make us pay. We'll always find some way around the law to make the wage slaves suffer for it!"
I have faith in the voters of Massachusetts, that they will not elect a "homophobic, racist, teabagging supporter of violence against women."

Brown opposes a proposed tax on big banks The tax that they propose EVEN PUTTING ON THE BANKS THAT HAVE PAID BACK THEIR TARP MONEY. Now let's see,, how was that worded. Oh yes,,, since we gave you the tarp money, and saved your bank,,, you paid it all back, with the interest,,, but we want more since if it wasn't for us,,, you would have gone out of business. Are we going to use the same logic to have the car companies pay back the cash for clunker money? Are we going to give money back to the people who actually pay taxes,,, rather than just cutting checks to the people who filed a return and more back than they ever paid in?
Ummm,, maybe GM and Chrysler could pay back their money,,, after all,,, with the government running them,,, they should be THE BEST RUN CAR COMPANIES IN THE WORLD,,, LIKE THE MASS HEALTH SYSTEM.
AND is the same tax going to be applied to Fanny and Freddie,,, who also took the money. WHY NO IT IS NOT. Seems the "honorable" Barney Frank did not think that was fair.
to curb bank executive compensation practices Now let's see,,, if the bank has paid back thier tarp money, with interest,,,, by what authority does the federal government propose limiting a CORPORATION'S compensation package. The board of directors and the stock holders decide what the exec's are to be paid. If the government wants to take a larger piece of that pie,,, raise the income tax on bonuses. Of course,,, that would cut into the $6,000,000 pay package for the top execs at Freddie and Fanny,,,, and you know who thinks that is unfair.
If the people want to curb the salaries of the bank execs',,,, move your deposits to a regional bank. You get better customer service anyway.
would have allowed a doctor, nurse or hospital to deny rape victims an emergency contraceptive if it 'conflicts with a sincerely held religious belief. the ammendment would not deny the paitent from getting it if they wanted the treatment. It just allowed for the doctors and nurses who had strong religious beleifs against the treatment,,, to step aside and let another doctor or nurse prescribe the treatment.
It's rooting in the same principles as schools not being able to force prayer on students, or offend non-christians by subjecting them to forced participation in Christian holidays such as Easter and Christmas.
Now, I can hear you arguing already that schools and governemnt are different because of the seperation of church and state,,, but with the STATE run health care system of MA,,, the medical providers are clearly direct contractors of the government, and thereby subject to the same HR provisions for codes of conduct and financial accounting that any other state contractor is forced to comply with.
THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS,,,
it shows that twisting the truth is not a monopoly of the right wing fringe.

Troubled_Asset_Relief_Program ###
The banks are eager to escape TARP and the restrictions that come with it, particularly the limits on how much they can pay their 25 most highly compensated workers ### Taxpayers — many of whom probably never imagined that banks would return their bailout money so soon, if ever —stand to make several billion dollars from their investment in the 10 banks the Treasury has collected about $1.8 billion in interest payments. It also might reap as much as $4.6 billion as the banks seek to expunge other government investments, known as warrants.

The results of elections held in the state of Massachusetts, including the special election on January 19, 2010, to find a replacement for Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat, will be posted here as they are released. Republican Scott Brown, Democrat Martha Coakley, and independent Joe Kennedy are leading the polls for the seat.
##########
According to the Wall Street Journal, there may not be exit polls released prior to the results of the January 2010 special election as generally in cases where a blowout win is expected, exit polls are not released. Per their report and a January 10, 2010, headline by the Boston Globe, Martha Coakley had a significant lead in the polls at 15 points.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703837004575013111682315540.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_MIDDLETopOpinion5 That statistic was debated however as CNN cited Brown leading the polls 52% to 45%.http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/01/19/massachusetts.senate/index.html6

I guess THE GLOBE got it wrong.
But,, what do you expect from an organization that takes 4 days to ask 544 people a question,,, and another 4 days to count them.
