I've got so much to put into this blog.....so many thoughts...that it's hard to know where to start off or what order to put my thoughts in. I'm going to get so many negative reactions for this blog, and it's okay. I don't mind if you call me names, shove a stick up my butt, or chew my head off. It says more about you than me, though it might say something about me. Who knows.

For a long time I was just like a lot of people, maybe even a little more extreme. I looked around at the economic situation here, saw people losing jobs and thought "why should I care about the Africans and all the other people in the world when I know Americans who are losing jobs?" Well, it hit me....it started with Haiti, but it wasn't just that. To be honest, that was just the beginning.

I watched a movie last night, an animated movie, called Barefoot Gen. It is a movie that recalls the bombing of Hiroshima, before, during and after. It was drawn and written by a survivor and it tells the story of his and his family's life and how he survived. In the beginning, the viewer sees that his family lived through extreme starvation. All food was rationed. The family was given a small bag of rice and told "Next ration's not 'til July". They then watched a crowd of people in line for their rations. They weren't allowed those rations because they had already gotten theirs. The younger son began to beg his father..."Daddy, can I pleeeease have some rice?" "No son," he answered, "It's not our turn."

It broke my heart. Even more heartbreaking was to watch Gen's mother, Kimiko, who was very pregnant, suffer because of severe malnutrition. The family just could not find food. When there was food available, a single sweet potato, Kimiko's heart broke because she could not give the food to her children and instead needed to keep it for herself to feed herself and her unborn child. I realize that the situation in America was just as bad during the Great Depression, but I think that back then Americans were a lot more appreciative of what they did have and didn't complain about what they lacked.

This is what started me thinking about how privileged we are here. This, and the situation in Haiti. I then began to think about all the people around the world who do not have the privileges that we have. I started to get really angry. I'm fuming, in fact.

I realize there are problems in America....problems with the government, problems with the economy, problems with the general situation, but what people need to understand is that we do have a certain amount of privilege. Even our homeless have a certain amount of privilege when compared with the homeless in places like Thailand, Haiti, India, and basically all of Africa. At least our homeless have shelters and a certain amount of free medical care.

We sit here in our warm houses (most of us), with our (most of the time) multiple computers and televisions, our cell phones and our stereos and our MP3 players...and we still have enough money to fill our cars with gas, landscape our yards, buy food (and sometimes go out for dinner), have Thanksgiving and buy Christmas presents for our friends and relatives. Need I go on? Then we complain about how we're getting screwed by the government, how Obama isn't a citizen, and how national healthcare will ruin the country.

I'm not saying there's nothing wrong with America. I'm not saying that I support the Obama administration. I'm not saying that Americans are all rich, or that the situations I described apply to everyone. What I'm saying is that even when we're in bad situations we're still better off than those people.

It blows my mind to hear kids complain about no food in the pantry when their pantries are full of food, they just don't want to eat it because it's not something that they think "tastes good". Kids in those countries would die to eat anything. American kids most of the time get three meals a day, even if one is paid for by the public school and even if their parent or parents have to work two jobs to pay for the other two.

It blows my mind to hear kids complain that they don't have their own laptop, or an Ipod or a texting cell phone or even a cell phone at all....when kids in those countries don't have computers at all sometimes. They don't have cell phones in Haiti. My Cultural Anthro professor regularly travels to Font de Blanc in Haiti to complete his doctoral thesis and told us that a satellite phone, one singular satellite phone, is shared among an entire village of people. One phone for an entire village, and if the weather's bad the phone won't work. And just forget IPods...

It REALLY blows my mind to hear people complain about not getting paid enough. I understand it's hard now, and there's not as many jobs as there used to be. You're getting laid off. Jobs are getting outsourced. I know. I'm glad to not be affected by this. I feel blessed. However, people in places outside America work for a dollar a day sewing together fancy lingerie cos men here just have to see women wearing it. They make our fancy clothes, our Disney merchandise, and other things that we REALLY do not need. For little money. Women in Eastern Europe, Africa, and Thailand are all but literally (and sometimes literally) forced to prostitute themselves to feed their kids and then you wonder why they try to scam you. Think about it. Doesn't make it right but try to open your mind a little.

You talk about the evils of national healthcare but at least you have some healthcare. In Haiti people are dying because they are breaking their legs. Doctors Without Borders was turned away. I think the Haitians would be thankful for national healthcare...even with the flaws.

And what makes me the most angry, I think, is that you complain about your rights being taken away because you don't have the right to carry your gun in some places. I'm sorry...but in the Middle East and some places in Africa the people live under the constant threat of their own governments killing and torturing them if they dare to speak out and are caught. Women are killed for the "crime" of being raped. And you get mad because you think Obama's not a citizen, and the ACLU doesn't like what you say. It also makes me angry that you complain about your high crime rates and say we need to not take in Haitian orphans when you're not living under the constant threat of being raped, killed and eaten by tribes. Gangs are a threat, but not like that. It's just NOT like that. And orphans? Come on. That kind of thing is just not bred into people. You can't be that dumb.

I'm not asking you to shut up. I'm not asking us to stop thinking of our own country, and I'm not saying that everything is coming up roses here. I'm asking you to think. Think before you complain about no Ipod, "no food", low wages, bad government, the losing of rights, etc. We have it pretty good. We're lucky.

We do have it made here in America...land of the free..home of the brave..at least it was..is it anymore?

But you dont want us to complain about corrupt politicians and loss of rights? No can do..

The people in power are trying to take away all those good things you mentioned we should be grateful for...We must be diligent..and alert...Its our duty as citizens..

Due to corruption in government..those freedoms are being stolen from us almost daily..Why would we say nothing? If house was robbed..would we call the cops..or be grateful that they didnt steal the rest of our stuff?

When you government goes bad..you MUST ...do something about it...One has no choice..

The reason many other nations are in such disarray..is because..corruption crept into their government....and they did nothing...and once the populace is disarmed..your totally screwed..with no hope of ever regaining your freedoms..

Should we follow in their footsteps?

When you government is doing wrong...giving your money away to wealthy BankSters who are the same people who designed this recent disaster on purpose to create fear in the people so they can twist our arms and make us do their bidding..I would say..it to dangerous to 'be nice'..I would say that our gov. politicians are a part of the scheme..the plan..the conspiracy..

Conspiracies such as this...actually are against the law...but when the head cop is corrupt..where do you go then? Who do you tell? No one..We The People are obligated to take care of it...either through the voting process..and if that fails to get rid of bad politicians..then through a war.

Hopefully...by taking the time now..and exposing the corruption..and trying to get rid of them peacefully..we will avoid option #2...but Im worried...as the people are better armed than the army..for a reason..they didnt do this because things were peaceful and great..
I
Its being done..because the good people of this country smell danger...The world isnt a bowl of cherries...it is full of devilish cancers...everywhere..We are the doctors..and we must cut the cancer out immediately before it spreads..

Love ya!

I do agree with most of your blog about materialism. The part I dont agree with so much is about the thing with health care. These little things are the start of turning us into Haiti and other dictoral countries. If we are not vigilant, we will lose our rights, like other countries have. I do understand about the health care problem, but nothing can be done until the people in power are removed, and new ideas come into play. All we are doing right now with Haiti is rebuilding a corrupt government at our expense. Anything that will be sent over there will almost be picked over by the higher ups and the rest thrown to the people. Look at the IDF (Israel Defence Force) They have sent mobile hospital units to help those that are there. They are there to help those in need, but without supporting a rotting system.

The cell phone comments I would like to address.
What did the villages do before they had the one cell phone? Survived. They only need it because it was given to them.

Good blog though, I had to think a bit before responding.

And as for hate or hate mail, how could anyone hate you? Just because you have different ideas that some may not agree with, shouldnt make you a target. You are able to explain and articulate your thoughts beautifully. They are well thought out, and I know that you dont write from your ass, like some. You know what your talking about and have done your research. So even if I disagree with you tooth and nail, I still respect your thoughts and ideas because they are not ignorant ramblings.

Just my thoughts

I agree with you ..grateful we should be .. and I for one am .. but like cookie I can remember a time when if you were willing to work there were jobs .. a lot were factory jobs but the wages were good .. most of them are shut down now .. we are a working country .. we want to work .. men still take pride in providing for their family .. the only thing that has saved us is we know how to downsize... be happy with less.
very good blog .. thank you.

Most Americans have a great deal to thankful for and I would suspect many are clueless. We have some pretty extreme poverty right in this country where there are areas that look like they belong in a third world country.

I love your blog and feel what you say except, I don't feel the anger anymore. People don't make me angry with their views anymore. Many of my clients are great people who spend alot of time and money volunteering for the needy. I'm sure Haiti is going to cause a lot of tax deductions. Possible even extra credit for Haiti contributions. (like they did with Katrina)

I'm hearing of class credit where some schools (and also churches) are sending our children to third world areas and have them volunteer (plus get educated to how well they have it).

Sometimes I'm embarrased to be an American but always consider myself lucky to be one.

Great Blog - You're young, you have fire and passion in your writing, I like it.

You cant help but feel sorry for those in poor countries......they were born there and thats all they know.....

My friends were missionaries in Chad...They showed me pictures...there are no lawns flowers..no joy there..just dirt...All the houses had outside walls around them..like a fence..but more like a fort....

It looked so depressing..and the people were so oppressed..I asked her if there was a high suicide rate...She said not at all..They were born in this condition..and they dont even know they have it bad..that the people of Chad were basically happy with their situation..

When we see their condition..because we live differently...we feel sorry for them..but we shouldnt..because they are ok with things..its us that has the problem with the way they live...

Sometimes I'm embarrased to be an American but always consider myself lucky to be one.

Why ??? Weve done alot of good all around the world..the bad things are being done by the global elite..

They are using our soldiers like their personal gladiators to go around the world protecting their corporate interests..not freedom..thats a hoax..

Our people are just beginning to figure all this out..and we will put a stop to it as soon as we can..

o be fair, I made it clear that I was not saying "do nothing" or "say nothing". I was simply saying that our rights have not been taken away. Thank you for commenting.

No offense..but this is incorrect...our rights have been greatly thrashed..

ask anyone over 50 how life was when we were young...verses today..

If you never lived in freedom..you dont know what it was like...

Just like I mentioned in another blog about my friends living in Chad..and they showed me pics...ITs the most depressing place Ive ever seen..I asked her if the suicide rate was high there..because they really do not have freedom and its a gross place..

She said no...that this is all they have known..so they dont know any better..

Thats why..its important to stay connected to your elders..parents..grandparents..so they can tell you how it used to be..so you can make a goal to keep your nation free.

I believe this is why this present administration has made such a push for community organizing so they can get the ear of the young..to change their thinking...just like dictators of other nations have done..Obama is doing all the same things Hitler and Stalin did..Why would we feel it will end up any different?

The 'powers that be' these days..are using these youth groups...and are turning the young against the old...its an ugly agenda these people have...they dont want you to know that we used to be free..and they dont want you to know about how Christian the nation used to be when we were free..

God equals freedom for all...No God..equals enslavement by corrupt men.

Its your future...not so much mine...Your rights are daily being threatened...The media is controlled by these same people..They aren't telling you the truth about anything....you being lied to..by your own government..

Our founding fathers told us this day would come...that corruption in government would abound...they also mentioned a revolution as a solution...

I prefer to try to weed out the corrupt politicians and get rid of them...

If we all can unite..then this is a goal that we can accomplish...

If we cant wake up the sleeping people..then a war will come...sadly so..
'
Im sorry to tell you this..but its the facts..our nation has been hijacked by some very bad people. who seek your enslavement and my death..and they will do this in time..if we dont wake up...and do something..

Join the Tea Parties..that the best start I can see...just take some time and read some material...dont just read on parties rhetoric..read everything you can..Read your constitution..and writings about the constitution.

Read a book called 'The Peoples History of the U.S...author Zinn....this will give you an idea of what your country is all about..its history..and the wonderful nation we 'had'...and can have again..

Be careful of the new revisionist histories...as the 'bad guys' have been changing the history books to suit their agenda...amazing huh...what gall..

Good luck..friend!

United Nations..and the NRA..fighting for our 2nd amendment rights

Watch this...this has been the goal of the past many administration..the Bushes...Clintons...Obama..and many more..This is the goal of this present administration..because this one...and the others..are all a part of the Global Elites..This is our problems here in our country....they systematic destruction of our freedoms...The gov is meddling in our daily lives. ...stealing away our joy.

The biggest human rights violators in the world..are controlling Obama..Bush..Clinton..and all the others..

Notice the statue in the front of the building..

My dear friend..our freedoms have never been more in danger than now..

it is knowledge that will free us...ONce you know something is going on..its easier to see in your daily life...

Kinda like buying a car...once youve bought it..you seem to notice them everywhere...so it is with political things...once you know whats going on..you will begin to see it..and its intrusion on your personal lives..

The only way to stop this terrible thing..is to acknowledge that it exists..then follow your instincts..
