It appears that our news media has finally focused on events that each and every parent can have a serious opinion about; how we choose to raise our kids & how the government has decided to help us, without helping us. Anyone over the age of 50, and probably quite a few under that age, can remember some of the harsh lessons we learned over a fathers knee with a belt, or forced to do some disgusting task in order to make us understand and appreciate just how lucky we were.

Recent events of a mother making a child walk to school, or a father putting a few bullet holes in an ungrateful daughters laptop are now considered no only extreme but criminal. Once again, these are laws put into effect by our elected officials, usually as a knee jerk reaction to some horrific crime that should and could have been dealt with singularly rather than a wide sweeping law that now gives all sorts of agencies powers they never imagined.

Our children grow up receiving things that we never imagined much less would have expected our parents to provide and were they available we would have either had to go get a job or save our allowance for years to buy it ourselves. Well learned lessons that have helped us grow up and take responsibility. The kids of lessons too many of our children are never going to learn until they make unthinkable mistakes that will ruin their lives because, in the eyes of the authorities, “there’s a law about that too!”.

If you pay attention to the demands of what is going on in Syria and a number of other Arab countries over the past year, their demands are not so much different to what we are suffering through. Slightly different circumstances, but the end result is the same: the people are fed up with heavy handed politicians and corrupt systems. Once again I remind you that we live in a country that has the oldest unchallenged form of government on the face of the earth. Odds are at this pace of governmental interference, it won’t last a lot longer without us experiencing a civil war. High unemployment, lots of graduates with no job prospects, politicians that would rather sit around and bicker about their latest political dispute while the average American suffers with very little relief in sight. And lets not forget that our government says every child must go to college, yet we also want manufacturing to grow. Do they really think college graduates with a sound education are willing to work in hot factories on assembly lines at wages not commensurate with their level of education? Really???

We’ve seen the Arab Spring … are we going to soon see an American Spring? People get PO’d and take matters in their own hands. Look at the number of incidents that have happened in the past 30 years. Look at the two angry young men in Oklahoma City that were branded as terrorists, then consider what a band of young men, 230+ years ago did that started this country on the road to democracy … we call them patriots.

The same heavy handed approach we see against civil disobedience in so many other countries now happens to people we call “occupiers”. A parent that has a child that won’t respond to all the textbook solutions is stripped of the most basic tools of parenthood, yet the state refuses to step in and show us a better, proven method. Is it possible the state lacks the ability to say “sorry, we were wrong, go back to raising your children you’re way, we just don’t know best”.

And now, they wonder why gun sales are skyrocketing, ammunition is in short supply, we are seeing lots of TV shows about how to survive the unthinkable, and more predictions that the world will come to an end before we see 2013. I hope by the time I wake up tomorrow, it will all be just a bad dream, I’m 10 years old again and will be MORE than happy to take out the garbage, clean my room and gulp down those lima beans that make me throw up, only to see my parents smile . . .

Very well written blog...and so much truth in it. I look at things today, and remember back to when I was a kid, we didn't just get something because we wanted it, we had to earn it. Mom wasn't afraid to swat us on our rear ends for acting up in the middle of the store either. Today, I see kids who, while having a fit, will threaten to call the cops for child abuse.

The insanity of these rulings indicates that there is a program in progress to destroy basic American values and morals. Parents and teachers who cannot enforce decent behavior cannot produce informed, good citizens. Such radical behavior cannot be stupidity alone.

The values that lead to the criticism of both these good parents are pushed by the media, with the viewers following like zombies. It is not chance. It is organized, and leads to civil disintegration.

America is under an organized attack, and the kids are both casualties and soldiers of the new regime.

Religion, work loyalty, patriotism, and morality are all weakened, and under attack. Sense of community, extended family, and nuclear family relationships are almost gone. Now the last bond, between single parent and child, is being destroyed. Soon, all will be isolated individuals with no guiding values, the easiest to manipulate.

It is the eleventh hour ! Act or lose all!

I never liked limas either, still don't.

I envision as the economy recovers (and it will)
some of the economic woes and anger will dissipate.
As with most situations there is a pendulum of balance that swings
somewhat too far in both directions over time.
But, evenetually through debate & dampering and compromise, a happy medium is approached and sometimes arrived at.

The gun sales is due to the NRA and Republicans selling the fear factor. More people will be shooting themself and others accidentl than ever.
It is all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

The NRA has to make the millions for bonuses for their CEOS and the Republicans have to support their Masters--the wealthy and rich.

As far as guns go, you will only be able to carry them certain places. They will be that 2000 bucks a year crack habit. Buy a gun gor about a grand, buy about 2 grand of amo per year, Nra magazine and membership, and practice ara local gun range. Cost about a grand a year.

Yep it is all about money.

The Example: where were all the gun slingers in the Tuson shooting last year.--You remember Arizona the state where you can carry a gun like the old cowboys

There definitely seems to be a breakdown in our society today and the belief systems that kids are growing up with... What do you expect though when at nearly every turn you see attacks on our religious institutions, our morals and our families? Liberal educators indoctrinate our kids with multiculturalism and don't even teach them the history of this country... Since the creation of the Dept. of Education, education costs have gone up enormously but our kids aren't educated any better... The NEA is a lot more powerful... Politicians, at least some of them, are much more interested in keeping these unions happy, rather than what is good for our children. Many good teachers are there but they are lost in the shuffle many times...

Religion? How could anyone doubt that there is an attack on these institutions? First the administration tries to tell churches who they can hire then they tell them what they must pay for... Even, the morning after pill...

To tie what's going on in this country with the Arab Spring shows a lack of understanding of Islamist motivation. But, you would have to study what's happening over there yourself to understand...

Actually though, I've just Rick Santorum's book "It Takes a Family". He addresses most of the issues that have led to a shift in attitudes and morals in this country... You hear liberals constantly try to counter attempts to reverse this trend by saying "You can't legislate morality". But, you can certainly support those groups that contribute to the moral capital of this country. You can stop funding or reform those programs which don't...

I was surprised by this book. Santorum showed a lot more depth than I would have imagined. It is clear that he has given a lot of thought to how to help reverse the moral bankruptcy that this country has and to help our poorest citizens actually rise up economically rather than being permanently stuck in poverty... Ways to start to decrease out of wedlock births and crime, especially in our inner cities... If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it!
