After a week of wild and inclement weather, it was so nice to finally be able to get out again today. Although I remember worse winters when I was a teen, we haven't seen anything like this in years. All the highways were closed from the lower mainland into the interior. Locally, there were police advisories all week telling everyone to stay home. So I did.

Fortunately, I'm in a position to not have to venture out if I don't want to. On the down side, not being able to go out for days on end gets old really fast. Between arctic winds that would bowl you over while freezing you, freezing rain that isn't safe to go out at all, and blizzard-like conditions, it's been a beastly week.

I spent a good part of the day today with my Mom, taking her grocery shopping as she hasn't been out either. I did't want her going out and risking falling, so I'd promised her I'd take her to the produce store today. She was doing the happy dance when she got a huge back of veggies for less than $18.00 and I offered to take her up to the grocery store as well, seeing as I had to go there anyway. Normally I don't do my shopping on Saturday as I like to avoid crowds. With the weather the way it's been, I didn't have much choice today.

Off to the grocery store, then down to Walmart to pick up a couple of things for her and 3 hours later, we were finally done. I hadn't planned on spending that much time shopping, but she can't get around easily and she's lost so much vision that she needs someone to go shopping with her, as she can't read anything anymore.

She has everything now, which is the main thing. As it took up the major part of the day, I found myself scrambling a bit to get ready for the opening reception of our photography club's show. I have two photos in the show for the next month, and I'm honoured, although a bit intimidated, to be showing next to some pretty fantastic photographers.

The opening reception was fun, meeting new people as well as spouses of the photo club members. The wife of one member looked really familiar and we started talking horses, as I knew I hadn't met her in any of the photo club functions. It turns out, she used to come to my previous house to purchase product and her and her husband both use and love it. Her husband, the photo club member, had no idea I was the 'brains' and the owner of the product. He said he knew I had my own business and product, but he just didn't put two and two together. It was a bit humorous and we had a good laugh about it. She asked if I had other products and when I told her about the magnesium oil, she said she'd give me a call this coming week for some. Yes!

When I returned home, I had a message from British Columbia Magazine thanking me for my photo submission advising me it was featured on their facebook page. I was pretty stoked, as they get 100's of photo submissions, so to be featured is quite the honour. Then, a friend posted on the featured photo that my photo had also been featured and won the daily contest on Global TV - and they have 1,000's of entries every day. Wow! As I don't have tv, I had no idea.

You have no idea how exciting it is to have your work featured. Although I know I have a long way to go with my photography skills, I'm pretty stoked that one of my photos was featured in two prominent media outlets. One of the photo club members said I could claim being published now. Well if that isn't a feather in the cap!

So it's been a pretty exciting day with the honour of having my photos in the gallery as well as the digital magazine and on tv. Sounds like a celebration is in order. Is that a bottle of wine I hear being uncorked?

Oh, here's a link to British Columbia Magazine's page where my photo is featured if anyone is interested. It's the photo of the sunrise behind Mt. Baker, across Mill Lake.

I think it's much better than the other 2 amateurs that submitted.
I did like the 2 killer whale photos though (done by pros).
The bear photo prop. was interesting.
