Family politics... Don't you just love those? Well, just 19 days left before I leave to see family in Texas. When I purchased my plane ticket for Houston, the goal was simple – to see family, spend quality time with them, and just have a good ole' time. Originally that was going to include my Aunt P, sister, and nephew, and my new brother-in-law once removed (a.k.a my sister's husband). It was going to be simple ...that is until my Mom decided to come visit from New Orleans. God bless her, I love my dear Mom, but you see, things tend to become complicated when she is involved in them. Well, they BOTH want to see me - my Mom and my Aunt P. No problem! I want to see BOTH of them – they are both dear family members; I love them both. My sister half-jokingly asked me how it feels to be “in-demand”. But I think we all know who's really in demand. It's my sister's absolutely adorable son, Jack. Well, ALL of us want to see Jack. So hey, what's the problem with that?

Well, actually there is a problem - my mother does not get along with my aunt P. My aunt, on the other hand, would have NO problem hanging around my mother. She has absolutely nothing against her. My Aunt P has got to be the sweetest person in the world. So how could anyone NOT get along with her?! No matter, because of this - my mother's mysterious grudge against my Aunt P - I can only visit with one of them at a time, and, naturally, competition has erupted between my aunt and my mother over how much time they get to spend with me! This is not at all what I envisioned in my “nice” little trip to see relatives in Texas. My Aunt P wants me to spend one or two nights at her house and my mother, of course, wants me to spend all the nights she's in town, where she's staying – which is at my sister's. I'm only going to be in Houston for three nights!

To be fair, let me say, I do not get along at all with my step-dad. As such, when my sister lived in New Orleans, I never visited her – or my mother – very much because they lived in the same town as my step-dad. I was often accused of causing divisions in the family. Maybe they were right, but then again how could I have caused family strife when all I did was keep my distance? Now, I sometimes wonder if my Mom is now trying to punish me for that...

Oh well, that's another blog that's probably be better off not being written. The point I was trying to make was, I'm probably no less guilty of stirring up issues in the family what with my grudge against my step father – or should I say my so-called “step dad”? I wouldn't consider that ***hole to even be a part of my family just because he happens to be married to a beloved relative of mine – my dear Mom. Well, I guess you now have an idea how I feel about him?? I refuse to have absolutely anything to do with my step-“father”. And believe you me, If HE were coming along to Houston, things would be a lot worse. I mean, I'd just be skipping the Houston segment of my trip altogether! Fortunately, though, he ain't coming...THANK YOU GOD!!!

Anyway, my sister quipped that I better get an appointment book to keep track of when I'm supposed to see my Mom and when I'm supposed to see my Aunt P. However, I had the last laugh, I told her that I was leaving it up to THEM to decide who I would see when and where I would sleep on which nights. When they finally work it out, I told them to get back to me so I could schedule it in my “appointment book” Seriously, I love them both and I want to see them both; I just hope I make it back to florida in one piece – and not two!
