Survivors of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, have been pressuring big corporations to cut their ties with the National Rifle Assocation.

And several have. They include Enterprise Holdings Inc. — which operates Enterprise, Alamo, and National Car Rental — as well as First National Bank of Omaha, Symantec security software, and home security company SimpliSafe.

Names of companies with NRA associations had begun circulating widely Thursday under the hashtag #BoycottNRA.

Like other organizations that charge a yearly membership fee, the lobby relies on perks to entice potential members. The NRA “member benefits” page offers savings on a credit card, hearing aids, life insurance, home security systems, car purchases, moving fees, prescription drugs, and branded checkbooks, among other things.

For more than a decade, the First National Bank of Omaha — one of the nation’s largest privately owned banks — had issued what its ads described as the “Official Credit Card of the NRA,” according to the Omaha World-Herald. The Visa card offered 5 percent back on gas and sporting goods store purchases and a $40 bonus card.

But in a tweet Thursday saying that “customer feedback has caused us to review our relationship with the NRA,” the bank announced it was stopping the program.

A few hours later, Enterprise made a similar announcement, saying they would be ending the program as of March 26.

“All three of our brands have ended the discount for NRA members,” said a tweet on the Enterprise Rent-A-Car account.

Enterprise, Alamo, and National Car Rentals all provided discounts to NRA members once they paid their $40 annual membership fee. The companies were among the 22 corporations offering discounts and “five star savings” to the gun lobby’s members, as detailed on the NRA’s “member benefits” page.

On Friday, Symantec — the parent company of Norton and LifeLock — announced via Twitter that it will no longer offer discounts on its products for NRA members, following a massive public push for them to end the relationship. “Symantec has stopped its discount program with the National Rifle Association,” the Tweet read.

SimpliSafe, which gives NRA members two months of free monitoring with a purchase of any new home security system, soon followed suit, informing ThinkProgress of its decision to end the program in an email.

Kevin C. Langin, a spokesman for the First National Bank of Omaha, said in a statement on Thursday that customer feedback had prompted a review of its contract with the N.R.A. “As a result, First National Bank of Omaha will not renew its contract with the National Rifle Association to issue the N.R.A. Visa Card,” the statement said.

Travel and Transport

On Saturday, Delta Air Lines said on Twitter that it was ending its contract with the association for discounted rates through the airline’s group travel program. “We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from their website,” the company said.

United Airlines tweeted a similar message two hours later.

Two moving van companies wrote on Twitter on Friday they were severing ties with the N.R.A. Allied Van Lines and North American Van Lines, which share a parent company, Sirva, each said it “no longer has an affiliate relationship with the NRA effective immediately,” and had asked to be removed from its website.

Rental Cars

A spokesman for Avis Budget Group, which owns the car-rental companies Avis and Budget, said on Friday a discount partnership with the N.R.A. would end by March 26.

Hertz said Friday that it was ending its rental car discount program for N.R.A. members.

On Thursday, the car rental companies Alamo, Enterprise and National, which share the parent company Enterprise Holdings, tweeted they would end their discount for N.R.A. members beginning March 26.

The Starkey Hearing Technologies, which focuses on hearing health care, education and support, said on Twitter on Saturday it would not renew its discount program with the N.R.A. The foundation said it would ask the N.R.A. to remove its information from the association’s website.

MetLife said in a tweet on Friday it was ending a discount program for N.R.A. members.

Also on Friday, a spokesman for the insurance company Chubb told Reuters it would no longer have a partnership with the N.R.A. on an insurance program called the “NRA Carry Guard.” The spokesman said Chubb had given notice of this change three months ago.

Technology, Information and Security

TrueCar, an automobile pricing and information website, said on Friday it was “ending its car buying service relationship” with the N.R.A. at the end of this month.

The home security company SimpliSafe once offered two months of free monitoring for N.R.A. members but the company said in an email on Saturday that it had “discontinued our existing relationship with the NRA.”

The cybersecurity company Symantec announced on Twitter on Friday it had ended a discount program with the NRA

Our country has illegal guns too but only in certain neighborhoods. Even so, our gun crime is down from that 20 years ago, because our gun control laws are very strict today.

Since you deleted my comment on your blog called BUMP Fay, I will post it here. Manipulative simpleton who thinks of himself as an "expert" told cockroach and letstartaroit to flood the blogs, to push the rest of ours down. So what we see on the last 3 pages is racist blogs and spamming of the same trash. And you will also be happy, as we see others are complicit, when the site closes due accepting cockroaches bumps on multiple blogs. Blame yourselves.

And you understand surely, that to continue doing this would potentially chase members away? All three of them want this site shut down and they are not the only ones. So please spare me the whining about politics, when by your friendships this trash is your preference. Anyone reading the blogs, very few these days, will simply overlook their rubbish as they do now, to scroll down to read the worthy blogs.

I believe the Banking, now can be expanded into Financial Corporations as...

Bank of America says in a statement to Axios that it is reexamining its relationship with banking clients who make AR-15s.

"We are joining other companies in our industry to examine what we can do to help end the tragedy of mass shootings, and an immediate step we’re taking is to engage the limited number of clients we have that manufacture assault weapons for non-military use to understand what they can contribute to this shared responsibility."

Thank you Angel that's real good news. The more corporations take a stand the better the chance of effective gun control being legislated.

They need to be hit in the pocketbook. This is GREAT news. Glad the protests are having an effect, but wth is wrong when children have to take leadership because adults can't or won't?

One of the student speakers was absolutely right when she said they had nothing to lose by forcing this issue. They didn't have to worry whether they'd be elected again or not or where their campaign funds came from. She also stated they were going to be at every rally, and going after every politician that was funded by the NRA.

Feb 25 @ 2:24PM
It is a shame that children have to do the work that adults are paid to do, Imp. But this is probably their journey in life.
