When people think of Orlando Florida we think of Fantasy , Theme parks, and family Vacations. As a matter of fact I moved to Orlando from New York City due to a life long love affair with Walt Disney World. I moved here on July 5th 1977 just six years after Walt Disny World welcomed its first visitor through its turnstile. I have witnessed incredible growth and change in the twenty nine years I have lived here. There are few Orange Groves anymore and the safe haven it once was is no longer. I use to be amazed at the content of the news each evening, there were so many feel good stories. I felt I had found my Nirvana. Orlando was truely the happiest place on Earth.
Times they are a changing. Orlando this past year has set a record pace for homicides. A few nights ago there was a shooting in a Walmart parking lot very very close to home. This morning when I arrived at work after a long holiday weekend, I discovered that a co-workers son was murdered during a home invasion in West Orlando , he was only eighteen years old. What a devasting act of violence. A family grieves tonight as they make arrangements to bury their son.My heart breaks tonight for them, I never will understand how someone can have so little respect for life. Violence simply makes me ill :(
