My best friend over the past ten years or so has been Wayne. He was my customer first but we very quickly became best of friends. Whenever he would come to my house to talk about some job he needed done, we would end up sitting on the porch for hours talking about anything and everything. Wayne has been my close confidant through two divorces. The first was a long and arduous thing, The second marriage was a tragic mistake from the start so it was in some ways less painful. Wayne and I shared a love for fonts and lettering and ways of laying things out in graphic form. Between us we came up with some great signs and posters. Looking back, I can honestly say I have never known a better man than him. Faithful to his wife and family, consciencious in his work and job and friendly to everyone he met, Wayne went out of his way to make sure anyone that he was dealing with was being treated fairly at all times. I watched him give refunds to people in his store, even when he knew that they were cheating him. His reputation for a sense of fairness was more important to him than the loss of a few dollars. He demonstrated good qualities like that in every area of his life that I could see.
Wayne died Friday morning. I lost my best friend to cancer of the pancreas. I will attend the funeral today at 2 pm, along with hundreds of people, many of whom have called his family and said, "Wayne was my very best friend"

Would that each of us could leave behind us such a legacy as this.

What a wonderful tribute to your friend. The only thing I can say, having a grandfather that had the very same type of cancer, I know how devastatingly painful it is. This by no means is of any comfort to those left to grieve, but at least your friend is now painfree. There is a song by Diamond Rio called, "God Only Cries for the Living" which makes sense of it.

So sorry about your friend Wayne.Seems like he left quite a legacy.Too bad there aren't many around like him. I would have loved to known him. My heart goes out to you and to Wayne's family.
Who could watch a river flowing,
or see an oak tree standing stately and tall.
Who could view them without knowing,
someone created them all?
Who could watch a Lily push through the rain soaked sod?
Who could look into the heart of a Rose
and say there is no God?

(For you and Wayne)

Words from a stranger like myself might not be much - but you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Its never easy - no matter what the cause or age...but what wonderful memories he left with you!
