I guess for this semester I will be half of a team on a radio broadcast show. If it wasn't required for my degree, I'd skip this one. I don't know what it is, but I never felt very nervous when I was on TV shows (interviews, commercials...) but everytime I'd have to go to the radio station to speak I just felt nervous and ill at ease.
I don't know if it's those big mikes, ( no smart-a** comments from all the 'Mike's' out there), the closed in feeling or what. I sure hope my partner is getting more training than I have been able to fit in so far. We start late this week and I haven't spent much time in the studio at all.
My partner is really shy. I'm not really shy, at least not once I am comfortable in a situation, but a radio just isn't my 'comfort zone' I guess.
The previous and/or trained DJ's assure me that after a couple of weeks we will be comfortable and blaring away. Because it's not a talk show we won't have to spend much time on those mike's anyway. (Let's not misuse the term 'mike' here either, okay)?!
Well short and to the point this time I guess. I'll save boredom and ramblings for another day

Have a fantastic evening! Until next time....

Hey girl,

Don't be nervous at all. Be yourself, have fun and your personality will speak volumes to the listeners.

I began my career on radio, spent 8 years in the medium and loved it. I did everything from produce commercials to host a daily DJ shift and the weirdest and simplest part to get over is getting used to the sound of your own voice.

So my advice to you is not to judge your voice as you hear it, that'll get you all gummed up and clumsy. Just talk, laugh, be who you are.

Some people will like you, some will dislike you. That's like real life, no?

Best of luck to you. Broadcast radio is truly one of the best jobs I ever had and once you get relaxed, you'll love it.

Best,
MobtownK
