Common sense right? We all know that one (or should anyway). I guess the trick is looking down at the guage every now and then. Normally I wouldn't call that a "trick" but considering I seem to be neglecting to do that there just has to be a little more to it than glancing down. (or could that be just wishful thinking on my part?
Did I tell you about last week? I think it was after the radio show and I'm heading for home. Of course it's pretty late so the store where I always stop to get my cup of crushed ice is closed. Maybe the ice and gas go together. I seem to always feel my gas tank when I get out early enough to stop there.
So I just keep driving, mostly just grateful that I am going to be home before midnight for once this week, singing a long with the radio and generally in a pretty good mood. I am almost to the long bridge that leads into the Kingston area and my car just slows down and stops in the middle of the road pretty much because I have to choices. Where I am and down the hill. Down that hillside didn't look like much fun so I pulled off as much as I could (which as I say wasn't much)
Then comes the automatic response. "Oh no, my car quit working, maybe I should look at the guages." Yep! Completely out of gas. For the first time in my life, this 46 year old woman was sitting on the side (sort of) of the road and out of gas. I called my son to let him know there was a chance I was going to be home late after all.
Being the sweet person he is, he offered to walk to the neighbors house (in the freezing cold and late night - and my neighbors aren't very close) Of course I told him I appreciated the offer but what good would it do to wake up a man whose mode of transportation is a riding lawn mower because he lost his license a long time ago (YEP FOLKS, I LIVE IN REDNECK TOWN)
Long story shorter, a nice man stopped drove me to the station, I got the gasoline to get me to the station. Filled up and went home. Now one might think they is the end of the story, huh?
NOPE!
One week later, exactly one week in fact, I am driving to work look down and guess what? Yep, the tank is in the red again. I was lucky that I was almost to town and managed to 'fume' in and fill up.
How silly is that? At least I did look down at the gauges before I was on the side of the road (sort of) this time, but is that all I learned?
I know this wild schedule of mine has me out of my routine but really, how could I forget the gas tank? Considering the nearest gas station to my home is 7 miles and the nearest one that stays open til 10 is about 15, thats kinda of an important matter to just let go.
The most frustrating thing to me is I have always been one of these people who can't stand to have my tank nearing 1/2 full. I guess I got in the habit when my son was really little because he was sick a lot and I never knew when we'd have to rush to some specialist or hospital somewhere. Both vehicles always stayed between 3/4th and full. And now? Wow, what has happened?
So this is my "I can't believe I did it" story - WHAT'S YOURS?

LOL Isn't life a bit screwy at times? Sometimes those sudden changes in schedule can throw us off track.
Hope you get back to remembering the car needs fuel real soon. It's not good to be stranded on the side of the road.

One of these days I'm going to learn to tell the difference between "just a little bit red" and "you did it again, ditz"

The car I just got go on reserve when it hits the red light. Then it starts adding up the miles you drive on reserve. So far I got 20. I guess I better start finding a gas station, right?
