Whenever I see a profile with the occupation listed as retired (not saying from what) It just makes me think, very limited income. Dating just works better when you are on somewhat equal financial footing. I think if people were more clear about this in their profile they would possibly open some doors

now that's just plain silly. retired means a person has earned the right after working hard to sit back on their laurels and enjoy life.
and if you're looking for someone with money, be explicit in your profile. if you're looking for someone that can live comfortably but maybe w/o extravagances but is a wonderful person, with a thought like that in your brain, you won't meet them.
grow up

Hmmm... lets keep in mind retired generally means everything substantial paid for too! No mortgage payment, no car payment! Takes alot of the load off! And the freedom is glorious!
I am sure the situation varies for all involved, some have more, some less.

I wonder what the ratio of men to women would be that have that same opinion as you: "dating works better when you are on somewhat equal financial footing"???
1:1?
1:20?
Or are men more inclined to have this position???
5:1?
20:1?
I also wonder what the ratio of men to women would be that place much emphasis on occupation/income over anything else in a profile???
1:1?
1:100?
Or are men more inclined to place much emphasis on this???
5:1?
100:1?
Well, I wonder.

It just could be that they are retired from a variety of occupations. They could have sold a business, worked in one of the trades and are drawing a pension or invested and got a nice payoff. Stating retired on a profile doesn't necessarily mean people are broke or poor.

Retired in no way shape or form means .... POOR??? C'mon! Lemme tell you, my father makes over $80 per hour sitting on his POOR retired ass, so you tell me.
I am sure that there are those out there that did not start planning for the future, and do not have what others have. But a lot of retired people are pretty well off. I have seen it working in the banking industry.
Don't worry about the money so much and have fun....If you are not interested in this poor retired soul, why should you care how much money he makes???

Being retired does not mean that they are "poor"..Hell from what Ive seen and its not the case with all retirees..is that they are very well off for the most part...it is true that some or a few may live on a limited income because most of their money is invested but they do get alotments *spelling?* atleast 2 times a month...
And as for dating someone on a close if not to exact financial footing...am I to assume you never dated anyone who made more then you?
I may also be assuming that people do not put their finacial status on profiles because they are looking for someone to want them for who they are as a person not for how much money they do or do not have...
But again this is just my opinion..

I think if you meet some one you really care for what difference does it make if financially one has more coming in then the other? If you are judgeing some one for thier money and not for what is is the heart...Gee that is very sad. Finances can be worked out.

some retirees paychecks ARE a lot larger than minimum wage. retirement allows people to live where they want.

"Retired" (especially from someone relatively young) is sometimes an indication that they're on disability or similar limited income. (Unless they are retired military, and that retirement can offer a nice steady lifetime income with benefits with enough health and time to pursue a second career)
Not all retirement incomes are low, btw...some people can only hope to earn as much as others collect for doing nothing after retiring. Besides, smart retirees often have an accumulation of assets which brings their monthly living expenses way down (no mortgage/car payment/etc)
On the other hand, it could mean they hit the jackpot somewhere along the way (a killing in the stock market, sold their house or some software or business for big buck, fell into an inheirtance, etc) so they might be rolling in dough and ready to have fun.
To me, it means they have the "wealth" of TIME, which at some point in life is a whole lot more appealing than a certain income level.

With all the domestic and foreign predators out there, why would anyone want to publicly divulge their financial status to the world?
I think if people were more clear about this in their profile they would possibly open some doors Yeah, their bank account door!
I thought women have been proclaiming, “We don’t need a man’s financial security anymore; it’s all about what’s on the inside that counts!”
I'm looking for a woman that loves me for my mind, not my bank account.
