New Blogs Page Flood Control

We have implemented a flood control for the new blogs page. It does not prevent you from posting multiple blogs, but just multiple appearing in a row from one user.

When you post a blog, we check if the last blog on new blogs is also your blog. If it is, we do not display the new blog you're posting. Your blog will still post, but it won't appear on new blogs page if the blog before it is also yours.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

You "guys" freakin rock... as I said in my last suck up to yall.. about this wonderful MD dating site (with the fantabulous moderators who work their frikken arses off trying to keep some semblence of sanity and kindness with very little or no pay)..

Being that I know not what gender you "guys" and I use that word in the generalist of terms, I cannot kiss up, as I really don't go both ways.. but .. HUGGZZZZZ (there that was non-gender enough for a sushi.. heynet or no???)

Awesome response team

Obsessive copious blogging is like someone who talks to themselves using a megaphone.

Lets see how it works. I'm sure you guys will make adjustments if needed.

Here is an idea, your sushiness...

I've notice that many bloggers (some of whom may be insecure in their opinions/comments) who set their blogs to 'screen' and only post comments that are in support or parallel their point of view.

I understand that we all have our own opinions about whatever topics, we're all human, but is there any way you guys/gals can 'mark' or 'identify' the authors of such blogs with a symbol so that those of us who might post a differing opinion would know not to waste so much time in typing somthing that is likely to not be posted???

That way, those who don't really appreciate authors who might be insecure of their opinions will decide to not post anything since they're likely to be omitted. Put a little 'censored' sign next to their ID or something; or an asterisk. I think an asterisk will be more appropriate.

What do you say, your sushiness??

Respectfully,

-dieldrin.

This is just a crazy suggestion. How about limiting a person to one post to a blog, and the blog writer to 1 post in their own blog? Many of these blogs with outlandish numbers on the comments are multi posts by the same people over and over , back and forth.

I know every once in awhile the MOD reminds them to do that in the forums but the system has run amuck.

bravo great work once again!
what i do not understand is this....
why does someone need to break a blog into 30-some odd parts?
is there a limit on the number of characters per blog space? i am just curious, as i thought it might solve part of the problem if the breaking the story into parts wasn;t necessary in the first place.

like i say...just curious

still good work....thanks!

I keep that little asterisk in my head and rarely even read those blogs anymore (there are several GREAT bloggers who choose not to mess up their thoughts with blog-babble, and I can also appreciate that stance. If I can't refrain from holding back a comment, I'll drop them an email...and it's perfectly ok with me if they don't choose to respond to my note.

Not everyone is looking to "correspond" either following a blog, via comments, or via email. I kind of like that option -- to each their own

...and to the ones who only allow flattering or corroborative comments, I say t'hell wicha -- you're not MY kind of people. We'd never last two minutes together as friends.

(I also figured out that there are a few people who don't realize that their blogs are set to "approval" and that they have to click the "accept" link before they appear)

Works for me I don't care if a whole lot of disinterested persons are appraised of my blogs posting or no .. just so the ones who are interested get to see them.

Okay, this keeps coming up, just like the multiple blogging comes up, and I absolutely cannot fathom why anyone would care!

I mean, if someone is flooding your blog with comments and you feel it is harassment, then report them! But if they are responding to comments on their own blog or they are making comments on someone elses blog .. well, then, it is THEIR blog and THEIR comments .. not yours. So why would you even care.

Like I got called an attention whore because someone posted these giant paragraphs full of questions that required detailed answers so I broke down their comments and responded to them, one by one. It was ALL related to the topic, it was important to us both, and it was my friggin' blog so how could it possibly matter to anyone else .. either you are interested in the topic or you aren't. And if you are, then you should appreciate the attention to detail .. and if you aren't then move on to another blog. How many comments there are or are not on my blog should in no way affect your day!

Likewise, how many blogs I post in one day .. or how many I don't post on other days .. shouldn't affect your life. Read them or don't.

I just don't get what all the harping is about .. and not just from the person I quoted but from many people. Some people like a lot of comments and a lot of blogs .. and why should they have to limit themselves and their enjoyment because you have some weird hang up about how many blogs or comments are socially acceptable to post?

Hmm... I was never aware that two blogs from the same person could appear in this list at the same time. At any rate, I'm glad you guys fixed this loophole. However, I thought their was a "24 hour" rule in effect for the blog page. I liked that rule too! It was very effective in preventing folks from dominating the blog page, several times a day. Well, as always, thank you, MatchDoctor. Once again, I'd like to express how grateful I am for the hard work you guys do and the great service you offer each day.

We kind of let everything fly here in the blogs, long as it's not objectionable content.

But many people see blogs as a "open discussion forum", but they're not really a true discussion forum in a sense. They should be a place where you post your thoughts an opinions about subjects, not necessarily ask questions directly to the community. Blogs are owned by the poster and they retain all screening abilities.

We are open to ideas for making our actual forums more popular for open discussions about subjects where everyone can voice their opinions without screening. We think because of how blogs appear on my home makes them more attractive to users to post questions, rather than going to the forums.

Maybe we should create a new "Topics" area, similar to the setup of new blogs, but it's a feed of all the new topics being created in the dating forums.

fuchia04, only one blog will appear on the home page. This is referring to the actual new blogs page, the one you get when you click on blogs in the site menu. Before, if you posted 5 in a row, they would all appear.

Hey, Matchdoctor, lets be democratic. Give us a vote. We can start collecting KUDOBOOS and vote towards a Blog Blowup when it recieves some predetermined number of KudoBoos them BOOM!!! the author gets their blog all over their face.

We had this at one time. We soon found out that negative kudos was not a very good idea.

I think this last change will make it fair and everyone happy. Hopefully! Little by little we refine this site with each little tweak.

Clear as mud. More techobabble. Do techies ever get out into the real world or are they programmed to speak in code?
