We don't receive visits from family vary often, however, recent circumstances have resulted in two visits from family in the last five weeks, with more, I'm sure to come. My Houston sister came to visit for the Easter weekend. She's probably already back in Houston by now.
Her decision to visit was originally out of concern for Dad (and we still are concerned about him), however the visit did not center around doctors or Dad's health at all. I think my sis just wanted to spend some quality time with us and she apparently needed a vacation really bad. Yesterday, we went out to the beach for 45 minutes (what vacation to Florida is ever complete without a visit to the beach???).
With the spring break crowd at the Fort Lauderdale beach, however, parking was virtually non-existent. We nonetheless found a place to park, or at least we thought we did – after the car in front of us went into the last parking lot, with an available space, they cordoned it off. I guess it was a half-hour later we finally found a spot to call our own.
You know, I've always had an inkling that taking public transportation to the beach does have it's advantages – even if you own a car.
I wish my sister would've brought Jack (her son) to Florida when she came to visit. Dad hasn't seen his grandson since he was just a few months old. ..and, of course, I'd like to see him again soon as well. ...and I wish the visit could've been a little longer..
I remember my sis last visited in 2004. However, that visit was a short one, as well – perhaps 36 hours (not kidding). Well, this visit was even shorter. By the time my sister arrived in Florida, sadly, it was just about time for her to leave. Seriously. She got in Friday night (11:00PM). We saw her Saturday and a little bit today and by 2:00PM she was on her way to the airport to catch a flight back to Houston. It felt like she had stopped by from Houston to borrow a teaspoon of sugar.
Admittedly, my last visit Houston was almost as short - but of course, at the time, I was also traveling to Hawaii, and had to squeeze both that AND my Houston visit into just a little over one piddly week! Miraculously, I somehow did it. However, I imagine my time in Houston, visiting her couldn't have been more than 48 hours - of course, after coming back from Hawaii, I think I clocked another 20 hours. Don't know 'bout you, but seems to me, my sister and I have been unconsciously trying to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the world's shortest family visit! Mind you, however, my sis and I have very good reasons for our super short micro-visits (among them, that pesky 4-letter word that begins with a 'w').
