Several dietitians were asked for their favorite heart-protective foods. Here's the list of the 10 superfoods that may help lower your risk of developing heart disease:

1. Sardines -- great source of omega-3 fatty acids and niacin.

2. Mackerel -- another source of omega-3 fats and the antioxidant mineral selenium.

3. Walnuts -- good source of good fats.

4. Tofu -- shown to reduce LDL cholesterol.

5 & 6. Plums/prunes -- good source of fiber, iron and the antioxidant beta-carotene.

7. Oatmeal -- low on glycemic index and an instant boost of fiber.

8 & 9. Kidney beans/chickpeas -- low-fat, high in soluble fiber and low on the glycemic index.

10. Barley -- combats constipation, good source of iron and other minerals.

These are wonderful foods, but I still haven’t decided how to use them to make a festive holiday dinner!

*sigh* Sardines are my nemesis! lol I used to love sardines and I used to love anchovies on pizza, too. I liked salt much more as a child than I do now.

Sardines are, in fact, something I really do enjoy, like many other fish and fish dishes: as soon as I wrestle myself into mental submission and force myself to open a can (or whatever needs to be done) and actually start eating them.

So, in hypothesis I hate sardines, in theory they are good for me but I won't eat them: in actual practice, they are quite quite yummy.

Now, there's a hang up for you!

Cinnamon sprinkled on things works like Oatmeal to reduce cholesterol.

Add spinach to a good source for iron.

Add all forms of Bran to regulation. Funny how we process out and remove the outer shell of things that are good for you then add vitamins for what was there already. Dumb!

Refined sugar is bad it is a incomplete food so it uses stored nutrients to be processed by the body. Sea Salt is much more healthy than ionized salt and less is more because it is saltier.
