"We've got to hold on
Ready or not
You live for the fight when it's all that you've got."
(Bon Jovi)

Tough night. Rock is not the strong suit of any of the final six American Idol competitors, but be that as it may, the overall strong showing was a pleasant surprise.

I concur with Simon's assessment that Phil performed one of the best openings of any show this season. Maybe it was having a chance to show off his real muscial love over the last couple of weeks, maybe it was the collective realization that this is where the rubber hits the road, but regardless why, things got going in a real blaze of glory.

Tonight was a huge stretch for Jordin, but in her usual brave style she stepped right up to the challenge. While it wasn't her best performance, I don't think Jon Bon Jovi himself would have given her less than a thumbs up for living on that kind of prayer.

Blake was way out of his element from a vocal standpoint but I give him huge credits for taking a huge risk and setting "You Give Love A Bad Name" into a contemporary rap arrangement. And then actually pulling it off. While it's not a favorite style of yours truly, I really, really liked it. This was the only way he was going to pass muster tonight and frankly, he did it with flying colors as far as I'm concerned.

After a couple of rather languid weeks, Lakisha came back with a roar. Her huge voice soulfully caressed what wasn't a love song at all and by the time she finished, the hair was actually standing on end on my arms. That is the kind of performance that, by all that is good and fair, must earn her a continued spot in the competition.

I've not wanted Chris dead or alive for some time now, and his average performance should find him leaving tomorrow night.

Of course, they saved the best for last. For how can anyone not have a nice day after hearing Melinda sing? Her consistency has been simply astounding and as always she was a joy to watch.

And so we now await tomorrow's results and see which two competitors are sent home. All I can say is that it had better not be any of the women....

I agree that Lakisha came back with a roar...
and to get a kiss from Simon...shocking!!
I think he was honestly hoping she would come back into
this competition. These song choices were hard, and feel
bad for Jordin because I really think she really was out of her
element on this.Range, everything felt strained.Gina, who was
in the audience, would have been fantastic with this week and
Bon Jovi.
I have never really cared for Phil until tonight. I really enjoyed his voice for
a change. Chris for sure has to go...but I am not sure about who goes
with him.Melinda..well what can be said for her? She's just phenomenal...!!

I think you are right, I think Chris is being voted off tomorrow night. Melinda just blows me away every time she sings, I just LOVE her. She has one of the best voices I've ever heard on Idol, plus, she seems like a genuinely sweet person too which endears me to her. I am hoping she wins the competition, she has such a well trained voice and gives so much soul, so much feeling when she sings.
