Today, if it was an average day, 104 people died on our Nations roads and 685 were injured as a result of automobile collisions. Half of these involved drunk driving, a violent crime. Yesterday 104 other people died and tomorrow another 104 will be gone and the day after and the day after that. Since 1945 about 2.5 million deaths have occurred and 15.5 million people have suffered injuries. Chances are you've been involved in a car accident at least once in your life. You are lucky, you experienced a brush with death.
Enjoy your day but drive carefully. Or could could join the car control movement, we want to outlaw all automobiles and have only mass transit with trained professional drivers at the wheel, we sure can't trust you incompetent bastards.

Good Blog - like the murder statistics in our country - this is deplorable. The fact that people are allowed to use cell phones - dvd players and PDA's while driving is proof that no one cares about traffic deaths.

I agree totally that cell phones and driving is an incredibly damgerous combination...what could you possibly be talking about that is so critical that it could not wait until you are not behind the wheel.
Also, I believe that driving with a cell phone 'planted against your ear' has become some kind of sick 'fashion statement'.

Not to make light of your drunk driving comment but watch where you get your numbers. If you research the issue hard enough you may find some surprising revelations in some facts. This country has jailed 1,200,000 people in the past 5 years for drunk driving and can't remember exactly but an estimated 98% of them could have driven safely. A 100 million people go out on a Friday and Saturday and consume alcohol, most do it responsibly, but we have a small percentage idiots as always.
