Hmmmmm ..... well it sounds good enough, but the dish looks a bit like a dog house, and I'm guessing that any man that dosen't wolf down such a meal that his beautiful mate has prepared would indeed find himself in such a dog house!

Hmmmmm, Our shepherds Pie is always made with beef,, not lamb, and we have mashed potatoes on the top. We do not cut it into shapes,, we put the "pastry" on the bottom of the dish,,, then the "meat",, then some grated carrots, then (sometimes) some creamed corn, then mashed potatoes,, "dot" the potatoes with butter, bake in the oven for 45min to an hour. Mmmm, mmm, good!
My Mum was from Brixham, Devon England.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC MISSCHOOS!!!
I was so taken with your recipe that I simply had to buy the ingredients today and attempt to copy your wonderful culinary suggestion. Using the picture as a guide I tried very hard to get the texture right but somehow I just couldn't get the cottage to stand up properly. My walls sagged when I put it in the oven and I''m sure I must be doing something wrong. Is there a technique we could use to get a good stiffness whilst the thing is rising? I'm also very interested in another British recipe called "Toad in the hole". If you could please explain what this is and how to make it, I'd very much appreciate it (With pictures if possible). I know it's something to do with a sausage in a hole but I don't have any other information. Thank you (The cottage I made looked very run down but tasted exquisitely Misschoos). Thank you

Well thanks for sharing that with us Miss. I live in an upscale area - we have all kinds of restaurants - Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Vietnamese, Mexican, Spanish, Russian, French - even All American food - BUT no British restaurants! I always wondered what you guys ate! Now I know - WOW!

Looks at blog incredulously...... ....its a cooking blog..... ...turn on the TV its a cooking programme...turn on the monitor it's a cooking blog.........Now on the subject of what the British eat......cottage pie and shephreds pie only if you live in a cottage (cottager?) or chase sheep all day. I had pizza Monday and fish and chips yesterday. Both accompanied or should I say preceded by Gods own drink .........cider! Made from Somerset apples....where the cider apples grow!
Recipe:
Pick apples Mulch apples into pulp Stick mulch and stuff with water in big tub Boil Cool down Drink Fall over Get up Drink again Fall over
NB Water is a wet substance used to make drinks liquidy.
Next week a recipe for a pasty...keep tuned to the cookery channel!

Most British people eat traditional dishes on weekdays. Monday is a day for Cottage or Shepherd's Pie We usually have this every Monday because we can mince up the beef or lamb left over from a Sunday Lol .. not here we dont and I am only 44 miles away and cotage pie has mashed potatoes on top not pastry Its a generalisation ... but I would change it to "some "
I have never in my life seen one of those cottages

could you define something for me....Is your pastry, just flour, butter, pinch of salt, and water?
And if you could, I would really, really, like a recipe for Yorkshire pudding.

If you want to know how to make anything British, do a search in Google for 'Delia Smith'
I have one of her books and just use it for reference, her recipes are very workable, and she has one for Yorkshire pudding.
The secret with Yorkshire pudding is to put the mix in the fridge for half a hour before cooking and ensure that you don't open the oven door during cooking. It's basically a batter, you can find one of her recipes for this and pastry.
Don't take any notice of my blog, it was a joke. They are not made with pastry, it's mashed potato.
