"Like being savaged by a dead sheep." (Denis Healey)
Yes, it's another American Idol 2007 blog. And yes, I'm going to rag on sheeplike America for what passes for both taste and comprehension these days.
Now, I've nothing against Blake; by all accounts he seems like a sweet, smart kid, and I've said before he has great potential as a producer/arranger one day. There's maybe even a hit single somewhere inside of him. What he does NOT have is what this competition is all about and that is A VOICE. No, he's not a bad singer; he has a unique and not unpleasing sound, to be sure, but it is the type that is a dime a dozen and should have been voted off the show tonight.
To compare Blake to Lakisha is like comparing water to chocolate. The difference in control, depth, flexibility, interpretive ability, range, texture, and tone between these two is as wide as the Missippi is long. Of course no one singer can sing every genre well, but Lakisha has shown a much larger, overall talent. Even her "bad nights" have been head and shoulders above almost anyone except Melinda and beautifully blossoming Jordin. But apparently the novelty of the ability to beatbox is seen as greater "singing" talent than being able to actually hit all the notes of a song properly and with distinction.
I'm thoroughly disgusted. Again.
Shame, shame. Ba-a-a-a-ad sheep.

I agree I thought Blake should have gone before Phil and Chris.

I find it amazing that people waste their time watching shows like this. Seriously.

TV sucks but watching shows like this can be very entertaining. Why? Because sometimes your brain is wiped out from the days activities. You don't have the energy to read, to interact or do anything. TV is in that mindless limbo stage of being trumping the dirty dishes and whatever else has to be done before bed.

And that's why I quit watching. After "America" voted off Chris Daughtry last year and what's his name won, I was thoroughly disgusted.

Excuse me for dodging (almost a disastorous omission of a d there) the American Idol blog but was drawn to dear old Denis's quote.

Certainly Lakisha is no loser, even if she was voted off this week. She has been inconsistent though and perhaps pulled from the same pool of voters as Melinda. Blake on the other hand has been consistent -- not consistently spectacular by any means, but consistently adaptable and innovative.
Not to worry. He will not be competing against Melinda or Jordin for the top title.

I was shocked when I heard Lakisha was the one to go. Blake has a future with something, I do like his inventive ways to recompoase a song into something modern, but the voices, like you state, of the three remaining women by far are stronger with more depth than Blake's. Jordin is the one I am hoping to win..but if she doesn't, I don't think she has to worry about getting someone to listen to her in the recording world. Melinda or Jordin...we can't go wrong listening to either one of them...
