I guess we all have times in our life's that stand out above others. Motherhood was that for me. I have told my eldest daughter on many occassions that my life began the day she was born, the moment she was placed in my arms. That is the greatest truth in my life.
I did not know what it was to have a real sense of family until she came into my life. Through her eyes and the eyes of my other children I learned what it was to have a childhood as I played barbies, tea parties, cars and trucks... We appreciated the simple pleasures of cloud watching and letting our imaginations flow.
There were a lot of hard times when my marriage split up. Two young girls and an infant son were suddenly 100% dependent on me. I look back and I am amazed sometimes that we accomplished as much as we did. And I know none of it would have been possible without them. They were my strength, my inspiration and continue to be my life.
On this special occassion I cannot help but reflect that this is not so much a holiday for me or about me as it is about my children. They have made me a better, stronger and wiser person.
They celebrate this day with me to acknowledge what I have done for them as a mother and a friend; but in truth, it is they who gave me the gift of life.
