(2 Peter 1:5-9) 5 Yes, for this very reason, by YOUR contributing in response all earnest effort, supply to YOUR faith virtue,
to [YOUR] virtue knowledge,
6 to [YOUR] knowledge self-control,
to [YOUR] self-control endurance,
to [YOUR] endurance godly devotion,
7 to [YOUR] godly devotion brotherly affection,
to [YOUR] brotherly affection love.
8 For if these things exist in YOU and overflow, they will prevent YOU from being either inactive or unfruitful
regarding the accurate knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For if these things are not present in anyone, he is blind, shutting his eyes [to the light], and has become forgetful of his cleansing from his sins of long ago. . .
I like to remind people, occasionally, that it takes more than a dunk in a pool and a brief good intention or prayer for help, here or there, to make you a Christian.
And if you aren't a Christian, well, the same basic principles apply. It's not enough to say or do, but you must say and then do or say while you are doing. Otherwise, either nothing gets done or no one knows it and so they are not helped by it. ... as a general rule.
Imagine going into work and sorting all the mail, then setting it down beside you, feeling accomplished, but never intending to give it to the postman. He wouldn't know where to find it and it certainly would not count with your Boss that you sorted it, if no one ever got their messages.
