The horror that is life continues wthout let up ! *
I am now ostracized by a Romanian or Bulgarian or some other 'ian' due to the fact that I don't think a cartoon of an Angel and Devil 69'ing is the height of humor. He says he hates me. Well, la de da!!
And I got a most annoying email from someone on webmate.com . It's filthy! Look at it:
How everything hope life is treating you good, Just wanted to say Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results.
May today and everyday bring you joy and happiness.
Now, I am all for positive thought - it does great things. The Bible is chock full of advice on being happy with what you have, being moderate in habits, appreciating the things that you take for granted, etc. It's all very good advice. A poor person who is happy because the weeds growing in their yard are bright yellow and really liven up the place, and also they may taste good in a salad, is bound to think life is more worthwhile than a poor person who bitches and moans that they don't have a manicured lawn like the people across town have. So yaye positive thought!
However, the way it was said in that email .. that is another story. That is like saying if you are raped, if you are a child being burnt with cigarettes by your father, if you are born into a third world country and starved by your oppressors, then it is all your fault for failing to come out grinning and keep going with that good positive mental attitude!
And yes indeed, there are idiots who believe it to that extent. I was once told that if a 4 year old girl gets raped then it's because that's the lesson she needs to learn in this lifetime and she should be both grateful and happy for the experience. That was told to me by a man who would, and did, write emails just like the one above.
Well, guess what? Good things happen to bad people .. bad things happen to good people. You can be as cheery as you want to be and you are still going to die.
Several Jehovah's Witnesses are killed each year in Greece and even more in the Middle East. This is not for thinking "My life really sucks today!" It is for knocking on people's doors and saying that they love and care about them and would certainly like it if they lived forever. Those are very positive thoughts and yet.. oddly enough .. good things sometimes fail to happen as a result.
Jesus was a very positive person. He was still lied about , spit on, slapped around, and nailed up. He told his followers to expect some version of the same.. but if they are his followers, they must also, like him, be positive right? So no .. that could not happen!

Most of the Apostles were killed in a rather nasty manner. Many many people who were followers of the faith in Christ were burned alive or fed to lions Those were the ones who kept up the positive mental attitude it takes to be his disciple! The negative nellies were sometimes released for being the lying cowards they were.
Look at Martin Luther King Jr. .. look at Ghandi .. they were positive thinking, giving, caring individuals too. And they were killed for sharing their opinions and inciting other people to think nicer thoughts, too.
There are many relief workers, missionaries, women who stand up to oppressive dictators for the good of the people, etc. who have been killed for daring to think that hard effort and wanting to do the right thing for people was important.
Does it mean they shouldn't have done it? In the majority : no it does not. It means, however, that you should not judge a person by how their life is going. You shouldn't assume if a bad thing is happening the person deserves it or brought it on themselves.
I find that sort of assumption highly offensive and most of the people I mentioned, above, died, in part, to combat or while combatting just that sort of thought. Ghandi was a bit of an outcast among his own people for telling them they were wrong to think that way about the poor, disabled, those born with birth defects, etc.
So I deleted Liviu Leonov for telling me he hates me for not liking something that he does, told off this purveyor of depressing emails, and am now pondering mightily on why it is I bother talking to people at all. What a good job they did spreading their positive energy throughout my life this morning, eh?
*It's not really that bad, but it was fun to type!
