"My Wish" -- Rascall Flats -- I hope that days come easy and moments pass slow, and each road leads you where you want to go, and if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose, I hope you choose the one that means the most to you. and if one door opens to another door closed, I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window, if it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile, more then anything, more then anything, My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it, to your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small, You never need to carry more then you can hold, and while you're out there getting where you're getting to, I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too, Yeah, this, is my wish. I hope you never look back, but ya never forget, all the ones who love you, in the place you left, I hope you always forgive, and you never regret, and you help somebody every chance you get, Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake, and you always give more then you take. Oh More then anything, Yeah, and more then anything, My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it, to your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small, You never need to carry more then you can hold, and while you're out there getting where you're getting to, I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too, Yeah, this, is my wish. Today was another hellacious work day. On my way home, I actually felt the sting of tears and then I felt them escaping from some leak out the side of my eyes. Funny, I thought, how easily some people can hurt others or make them feel as completely incompetent and totally unworthy of respect. And then, if by some beautiful mind reader, on the radio came the song "My Wish" by Rascall Flatts.. read the words.. let them sink in...
I work in an office where there is a constant, never ending battle to be the cat with the cheshire grin at the start of the day, all throughout the day and especially at the end. Now ordinarily this is not a bad thing, but when that grin is the end product, the dastardly result of someone's success at bringing another individual to the point of having to make some over-the-head of the original commenter remark to back them away from further insults and degradation, then I hurt for the one being raked over the coals in order to escalate the commenter to higher levels of their own self importance.
What on God's green earth is wrong with people today? Has the race to pat yourself on the back or sing your self praise become what should be the norm of the work day? or of life itself? When did compassion and caring enough about your fellow workers stop you from being able to see that words cut sometimes worse than a sharp knife could? Or has the entire human race become so egomanical that they need to hear themselves being praised if by no one else, then in their own warped minds, by belittling another person because of .. get this.. a MISTAKE.. OMG!!!!! Now, there is a right way and a wrong way of telling someone they "goofed".. the right way is to call them aside and say, "Listen, I know you have been working really hard on this project (the truth) but I found a small mistake here and was hoping it would be easy to correct".. the wrong way.. to come out into our secretarial area and say loudly.. "look, this is sooo wrong.. what the hell where you thinking!" But, let that project be the finest piece of work, perfectly done without any mistakes, in record time, up against the gun of the clock, and there is absolutely no "what an amazing person you are.. this is fantastic".
It seems when others make FRIKKEN ERRORS/MISTAKES/ETC., this brings out those fckn Cheshire Cat grins.. they smile and look and smile and look (you get the picture) .. and even make smart ass remarks ("wow, even a moron woulda known that") but these cat smilers make their own share of mistakes, but perhaps are not chastised in public... OH BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD... I just needed to get it out of my system and say a prayer for the girl... and what really brought everything back to perspective was that I was nearing my little piece of heaven.. yep..
UP AROUND THE BEND -- (John Fogerty / Creedence Clearwater Revival)
There's a place up ahead and I'm goin' just as fast as my feet can fly Come away, come away if you're goin', leave the sinkin' ship behind.
CHORUS: Come on the risin' wind, we're goin' up around the bend.
Ooh! Bring a song and a smile for the banjo, better get while the gettin's good, Hitch a ride to the end of the highway where the neons turn to wood.
CHORUS
Oooh! You can ponder perpetual motion, fix your mind on a crystal day, Always time for a good conversation, there's an ear for what you say. Be kind, for you could be the one in those shoes of chastisement and humiliation one day.. put yourself in their place and think of how "perfect" you are now feeling.. too bad it is only in your own eyes...
And now for granddad's tribute.. (thanks Jamey.. this is a gem) The Birds and the Bees
A father asked his 10-year old son if he knew about the birds and the bees.
"I don't want to know," the child said, bursting into tears. "Promise me you won't tell me."
Confused, the father asked what was wrong.
The boy sobbed, "When I was six, I got the "There's no Easter Bunny" speech. At seven, I got the "There's no Tooth Fairy" speech. When I was eight, you hit me with the "There's no Santa" speech. If you're going to tell me that "grownups don't really get laid", I will have nothing left to live for."
