Current mood: flabbergasted but amused!
So here is an interesting thing ..
First the set up: Moved to Arizona from Alaska a little over 3 years ago. Since then my Alaskan ID has expired and I have not been able to obtain an Arizona ID. "Why?" you may ask .. go ahead, I won't bite: ask!
Because my Alaskan ID was a Learner's Permit and the State of Arizona does not accept Learner's Permits from other States as a valid form of Identification.
I am not making this up!
So, today, thanks to my weasely ex-husband and his perpetual inability to take responsibility for his own actions, tell the truth, etc. I am down at the Court House getting something notarized, using that same sad expired ID to do so as it seems to work most places except the DMV, when I learn this startling bit of information:
I can use my expired Alaskan ID, along with a certified copy of my birth certificate and $97.00, to get my Passport. Which I can then use to go and get my regular State ID if and when I choose to do so.
Got that? I can't use it to get a cheesy State ID but I can use it to get an ID that enables me to prance about between countries!!!
*sigh*
Any doubt as to the madness of the Romans left?
.................................................................................................. Comment left by me in response to other people's disbelief :
They don't accept the Learner's Permits from any other State as valid Identification. Honestly!
The part that I think is so weird is that where I came from they would have accepted an Arizona Learner's Permit but you couldn't go and flash an expired ID around and get anywhere, especially not in a government office. Here, it's exactly the opposite. Freaky, methinks!
