A few have asked the oh-so-confusing question of “What exactly is Blogging?” and “What is the Forum?”

Apparently, it’s as complicated as Quantum Physics to some. To me on the other hand, the all-knowing, all-seeing kinda guy I am, it’s as simple as peeing your name in the snow.

Blogging is for sharing information. It’s a place to journal your thoughts, dreams, daily goings on, poetry (good or bad but it’s nicer when it’s at least understandable), stories you might have written, beliefs, and all sorts of stuff that isn’t necessarily up for discussion. Now, you have the ability to comment on blogs but not in a discussion-type setting, that’s what the forums are for. You can prevent blog comments and allow only those that agree with your point of view, you can allow only your friends, and you can preview any comment before allowing it to post to the blog. Discussion? What does that mean? That is when you post a blog that asks a direct question about what you’re thinking about at the moment. I’ll go back to what the moderator said. If you’re SEEKING comments, it belongs in the forum. Simple shit if you ask me.

Let’s see if I can make that more clear. Here are some examples of blogs that belong in the forums because their purpose is to generate a discussion:
1. What do you think?
2. What would you do?
3. Why am I such a dumbass?
4. Why don’t people like me?
5. How come I can’t get a date?
6. Am I too fat?
7. Do camel humps turn you on?
8. Do I look like a Muppet?

The forums are pretty neat, or can be. It’s understandable why some avoid the forums like the Ebola virus. See, in the forums, people can comment on your postings and neither you nor the OP (original poster) can delete your comment; it’s out there for all to see and stays there until either the world implodes on itself or the Forum Mod takes exception and deletes either your comment or the entire thread. (It happens, by the way.) You can’t delete your own forum post if things get heated, or you’re found out to be a liar, hypocrite, or a dumbass. You can edit it within a certain period of time though…so if you’re an idjit and people take you to task for it, I think they allow you 2 hours to edit…could be wrong, though. But that won’t necessarily keep someone from bringing up your original idjitness and the attempt to cover your ass….

For some, this just isn’t a good thing. A lot of bloggers require the constant stroking of like minds. Any comment that doesn’t fit within the clique’s set of rules is automatically refused, deleted, or pounced on by ravenous Barracuda and ripped apart by Fixodent-strengthened dentures. It can be pretty entertaining. Unfortunately, it gets old fast and the resulting carnage leaves a rather odorous stench. Personally, I enjoy it. I’m an opportunist, a cyber vulture so to speak. I sit and wait, eyeing the terrain for something I can shoot spit-wads at. Eventually I’ll have to repent for all my sins but for the time being, fk it. It looks like my time is slowly approaching. But the neat thing is, when these pseudo-bloggers are exiled to the forums, the fun will start.

Forum posters for the most part are very nice people. You’ll obviously have differing personalities and cliques are not uncommon, but at least they have the Big Boy or Big Girl Underoos to deal with the resulting opinions. They can’t pick and choose what’s displayed. Forum posters are an intelligent bunch of folks, trying to slide shit past them or even the attempt to be some sort of self-styled Internet Messiah will pique their interest. When they smell blood of any kind, so help you God. BUT, if you’re not a narcissist, carnival barker, or snake oil salesman, they really are a great bunch of people. The vast majority of people on my friends list are from the forums…and I’m an asshole…so, if you’re a nice person, they’ll welcome you with open arms. The truth is, most of the couples you see posting on the forums and blogs MET while in the forums, not all…but quite a few. So it’s a good thing, no?

Understand now? Of course you do…or should. If you don’t you’re so fked up that nothing will help.

The days of bashing the blog bashers who bash blog bashers looks to be ending. I’m sad and excited at the same time. I won’t have as much to blog about and that sucks. I’ll actually have to call up Tunes and find out how to be nice. Blows, I tell ya. I’ll figure it out eventually.
