Hello everyone! Hope you noticed i've been gone lately. My knee has been hurting pretty bad. Went to the DR and he says its a miniscus tear. So have to have surgery pretty soon. It'll be on the 13th of this month. Since i Have my daughter at the same time, i don't know how much i will be on. the good news(or maybe the bad) is that i am trying to think up some new quizes. so keep a look out for them. oops, the rules say that i can't say hi to everyone so please ignore that part. Still kickin'(with one leg anyway) Roy

I'm about to give you the best advice you're EVER going to get, so pay attention;
If at all possible, get a second, third, and even fourth opinion before you allow them to operate on your knee. Most meniscus tears CAN be overcome WITHOUT surgery, but you have to work very hard at physical therapy for a few months in order to do so.
I let this surgeon talk me into having surgery on both my knees, the left one because it had a recent tear and the right one because it was creaky, in part due to an earlier meniscus tear for which I took the physical therapy route. Letting him operate on my knees was the biggest mistake of my life, and if I could take it back, I would do so in a heartbeat...but since I can't, the least I can do is let you know that you need to explore ALL your options, and don't just take the surgeon's word about the state of things. He's in it to make money, after all.
Three operations later, and I'm permanently physically disabled. I have a very hard time walking or standing, and even sitting upright in a chair is very painful. I've been on serious painkillers for the last 9 years, too. I used to be a very physical person, into martial arts, long-distance cycling, mountain biking, wilderness excursions and all kinds of things like that, but now I'm almost completely housebound, all because I listened to that damned surgeon and let him ruin my knees for life.
Don't let them operate on your knee until you get other opinions, and talk with an expert on physical therapy. They shouldn't even be allowed to operate until you've done some physical therapy work and been evaluated, so DON'T TRUST THEM!!!
There...that's the best damned advice you're ever going to get. I hope you'll pay attention, and not just take it on faith that the surgeon is doing it to help you...they're in it to make money, and the more people they can convince to have knee surgery, the more money they make. Think about it!
