It has been debunked that a Guantanemo Bay Brig Guard flushed a copy of the Koran down the toilet as reported in Newsweek Magazine (a publication that is owned by the liberal Washington Post). However, exposing the lies of the POLITICAL DISINFORMATION NEWS MEDIA PROPAGANDA COMPLEX does not undo the riots in Pakastan and Afghanistan, nor can a tiny retraction that is buried deeply inside of a publication somewhere out of sight and out of mind, will ever restore the lives of the 15 people who were killed by the fanatical Moslems who rioted after the Guantanemo Koran toilet flushing lie was printed.
In like manner as legislators seek to criminalize the "Hate Speech" of Ministers of the Gospel preaching against Homosexuals from the pulpit, should we enact new FELONIOUS PROPAGANDA "hate" legislation that criminalizes correspondents, reporters, editors, publishers, and broadcasters within the POLITICAL DISINFORMATION NEWS MEDIA PROPAGANDA COMPLEX when with reckless disregard for truth, they print or broadcast an article, story, or feature which has elements or portions that are untrue and inflame others to perform acts that cause either the death, dismemberment, mahem, or great physical harm to any person, due to riot, lynching, rape, kidnapping, arson, or other dangerous tort or crime?
When newspapers and magazine print lies and also when broadcasters put lies "on the air" that inflame others to commit hate crimes, why shouldn't any of these slimy correspondents, reporters, editors, publishers and broadcastes whose story, article, or feature is the proximate cause for any homicide be classified as the new criminal offense of MURDER IN THE THIRD DEGREE BY THE FOURTH ESTATE?
The First Amendment should not shield those who create controversy by disseminating lies and propaganda, that result in any death, dismemberment, mahem, or great physical harm of any person, due to riot, lynching, rape, kidnapping, arson, or other dangerous tort or crime.
These Fourth Estate perpetrators should be adjudicted as the Criminal Kingpinscausing the resulting crimes, not a co-conspirators, but as co-equal principals and partners in crime in league with the murderers, rapists, kidnappers, and arsonists, whose acts were incited by the false propaganda of the print or broadcast news media.
Rembember the Nuns killed by the rioters? The blood of 15 innocent people is now on the hands of the News Magazine owned by the liberal Washington Post and regrettably, there is no adequate remedy at law now available to both bring criminal sanctions or to seek civil damages from the Partisans of Profit who write dangerous lies that inflame the fanatics to perform monsterous deeds. In fact,the Reporter who wrote the lies about the Koran being flushed down a toilet is still on the payroll!
Accessories before the fact is too lenient for these Monsters. They should be charged as co-principals, equally guilty as the rioting Islamic fanatics who were the actual murderers of the 15 people killed by reason of a PROPAGANDIST'S printed lie.
Under current laws, broadcasters cannot air obscenity. Everything else, including lies, and the reckless disregard for truth is permitted (or at least is not prohibited by law). Also, when lies are printed or broadcast about a public figure, there isnt even the remedy afforded private citizens to sue for slander and libel without the burden of proving malice aforethought!
This dismal state of affairs cannot be permitted to continue.Clearly new PROPAGANDA laws need to be enacted before more deaths, dismemberment, mahem, rape, kidnapping, arson and riots occur by reason of the bald-faced lies disseminated by the formerly noble Fourth Estate, the News Media who are now so discredited that they no longer are the principal source for the acquisition of news anymore, BECAUSE THEY LIE, SPIN, OBFUSCATE, PREVARICATE, AND CANARD CONSTANTLY.

I guess I am one of those "slimy editors" you referring to in your blog. I work as a copy editor/page designer for a 38,000 circulation daily newspaper in South Texas.
I'm not sure if you read our publication - we are also online at www.victoriaadvocate.com - but we take great pains to serve our readers with accurate, up-to-date information.
We will not print stories that contain anonymous sources because we want our readers to decide for themselves if the story is legit. We will also not run any profanity in our stories unless first cleared by an editor (even "hell" and "damn" have to be cleared).
We will not run pictures containing blood or dead bodies and if graphically-written news stories don't pass 'the breakfast test" (seeing a picture of a bloody body or reading of a murder with grisly details while eating breakfast), it does not run.
If we make an error of fact, we print a correction the following day.
If we use a news story that turns out to be false, we will run a corrected version the following day.
Just wanted to let you know that we in the media are responsible, intelligent professionals and not all left-leaning propagandists out to deceive the public.

paralegal - I had an awakening of sorts shortly after the 9-11 attacks. I was recuperating from neck surgery and watched Rumsfelds press conferences daily after the war began with Afghanistan. If you remember he laid out the plan to help the warlords and Northern Alliance with bombings and intel to defeat the Taliban. Yet each day he was barraged with stupid questions and each day the liberal media published reports that his plan would never work. In the words of Dan Rather and Ted Koppel - the desk jockey warriors that they are - "THis will require hundreds of thousands of boots on the ground and tens of thousand of body bags." So on the Tuesday following the weekend that most major cities in Afghanistan were taken back from the Taliban - I found myself in the Dr office waiting endlessly to see the Dr. So I picked up Newsweek and Time from the rack and to my humor I read what they printed over the weekend - before Rumsfeld was proven a prophet! There were stories of dissent in the White House - in the Military - the same - this will never work crap and the usual liberal drivel. Unfortunately for them it takes 2 days to print and distribute these useless magazines. OOPS
Did they ever apologize - NOPE. Did they print an article praising Rumsfelds plan and success - NOPE.
Anyone that pays for these publications needs a drug test! JMO

The 1st Amendment was to make the press a watchdog of government and voice of the people.
In both it has dismally failed in my opinion.
On the other hand, to make 'laws' curbing speech either fom the pulpit or the press is dangerous to any free society.
I'm a conservative. Not a liberal.
Of course 'conservatism' today has lost all meaning as well as 'liberal'.
Are there mistakes and misuse of the press?..Yes
But the curbing of speech is far more dangerous than a story as a whole.
If there is damage, let them seek recompense in court.
As far as the Constitution, leave it alone as far as 'laws'..

Which confirms the status quo of having no laws on the books to criminalize the conduct of PRINTING LIES with reckless disregard of truth and with premeditation aforethought KNOWING THERE IS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER that the printed lies will lead to riots, murders, rapes, arsons, mahyem, or beatings with great bodily harm.
For instance, we all saw what happened in the Moslem world when the European newspapers printed the cartoons lampooning Mohamed. Those cartoons caused riots and lead to murders.
It is understood that when the News Magazine knowingly published the lie that the Gitmo jailers had "flushed the Koran down the toilet" that there would be severe anti-American riots throughout the Islamic world. So, to have no legislation simply permits any Anti-American publisher to inflame the people who are hostile to America without any sort of judicial review of the aftermath where there are injuries, perhaps fatalities, or perhaps rioting and fires set to buildings and cars.
Joshua, are you saying if any reporter, correspondent, editor, publisher, or broadcaster recklessly, maliciously,and with premeditation prints an article, story, or featured series that contains lies that willfully and knowingly lead to homicides and property damages that there should be no judicial revew whatsoever for such conduct which I sincerely hope will very soon become a criminal act.
I wonder if it were you being dragged from your motor vehicle while on vacation, and then being severely beaten, soaked with gasoline, and lit on fire with your head and shoulders inside of a burning automobile tire, whether or not would you finally see my point about the wisdom of criminalizing the inflammation of a mob with slanderous lies that are printed or broadcast by the news media as facts?
Unless you honestly believe that printed or broadcast lies that cause death or great bodily harm at the hands of an inflammed mob needs Constitutional protection in order to cloak the perpetrator with a shield from any criminal or civil liability?
Defend your lassaiz faire attitude when the conduct complained of is the proximate cause of kidnapping, death, mahem, rape, arson, or great bodily harm. Freedom of Speech is not absolute; you cannot falsely yell "Fire" in a crowded theater, for instance; nor, can you utter a terroristic threat.
While I normally say, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it," when the printed or broadcast word is false on its face and the lies cause riots that lead others to suffer harm, then you have exceeded your rights when the inflammed mob anywhere in the world, acting on your motivating lies, becomes the outreached arm of your venomized hatred for America.
