Yes, the Canadians, the Brazilians, the Scottish, the polynesians from the Cook Islands, the Americans, the Indonesians, the Germans... and more! The Tall Ships 2007 festival was in Newport, Rhode Island over the weekend and we weren't about to miss it. The kids and I drove over to Jamestown and caught the ferry over to Newport, trying to avoid the onslaught of traffic by the over 250,000 people in attendance. Great food, live music, and the most awesome sailing ships! We absolutely fell in love with the crew from the Cisne Branca whose home port is in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Everyone was so warm and friendly and it gave the kids a chance to practice on their spanish too. We visited the 'international village' where there were displays from every country attending the festival. After a long day of walking around Newport and visiting with the crew members from all over the world and seeing their ships, we caught the ferry back over to Jamestown and headed for the Spinnaker for some of the best ice cream around, while we visited even more with the Brazilians who had decided to go over to Conanicut on the Jamestown Ferry to escape the crowds themselves lol.

The sun was barely beginning to set, so off we went to the south end of the island to Beavertail State Park. The last time we were there it was very cold (March) so we were anxious to explore the rocks and beaches. We talked to many of the locals, some fishing, and some simply enjoying the view.

Today was the last day of the Tall Ships Festival, which culminated with the "Parade of Sails" where all the ships sailed through the Narragansett Bay then out to sea where the majority of the ships were headed to Nova Scotia for another festival. These ships are impressive just sitting at port, but there is absolutely nothing like seeing 21 ships in full sail going out of the bay. We witnessed this great parade from the rocks of Fort Wetherill State Park on Conanicut Island.

If you have never been lucky enough to go to a Tall Ships Festival, enjoy my pics. Live, laugh, and Love like there is no tomorrow!
