I woke up this morning at 5:30 am like I usually do and outside the window I could hear the birds singing and with my eyes closed it brought me back to one time when I was a child and I could hear the birds out my bedroom window and it brought peace to me.

Then I started thinking of the things wayyyyy in my past that brought peace to me like hearing my dad mow the lawn with one of those manual lawnmowers, the kind that have nothing more than blades, wheels and a long handle. Afterwards he would sit under a tree, listen to the ball game and have a beer.

Another peaceful memory is lying in bed with my head at the foot trying to catch the breeze to stay cool.

Life was simple then and no one had heard of the word stress yet ........ What are your memories that bring a smile on your face?

My earliest memory in life is laying on my daddy's back with my arms around him as he he's swim out in the ocean. I think thats where my first love of the ocean started that gives me such peace. Another one is sitting in a tree reading for hours. I miss that.

Thanks for the blog that makes one think.

I too,can remember laying in the bed during early morning, listening to the birds, and yes,u are right,it gave us a sense of "peace"..I could see my mom's homemade curtain blowing in the wind, and when we moved from that house,I took mom's curtain with me,that was 40 years ago,and as I sit here in my bedroom by myself,I am starring at that same ole curtain,my mom made...oh God,kinda sounds like a Dolly Pardon song...geez....lol

When I was a little girl, my parents would take us to French Creek to go camping. My sister tried to make cookies on the campfire. It didn't work. We called them peanutbutter mushmush. She was so upset at first, then laughed with us. (she was 9 yo at the time) Every time we do something that doesn't turn out exactly as they plan, we call it peanutbutter mushmush.

I did 5 years in the Marines........Two of them I was stationed in Bermuda.....Yes, that semi tropical resort island....

It is the greatest memory I have in my life....Waking up every morning and smelling that sweet ocean and standing up and seeing the crystal clear aquamarine blue ocean less that 60 feet from my window...

Other than the months of December to Mid April, I was swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving every day....Perfect beaches with pink sand...Diving on the most beautiful coral reefs and when you looked up at the boat you were diving off, it appeared to literally be floating on air...

Having my first motorcycle and feeling that fantastic rush driving on the roads and having the ocean view from the cliffs off of south shore road...Dating women constantly...Dancing all night long...Partying all night long...Actually taking half of my 30 day leave there too....

Being in the best physical shape of my entire life because you know the Marines ha ha...Always running and doing push ups etc....

The nights were also fantastic...I would lay down on the grass on a blanket and see dozens of shooting stars all night long...Listening to the crickets singing and smelling that beautiful aroma of the ocean breeze mixed with the flowers scents...

Of course I was single....No bills....No stress really...It was absolute heaven on earth at that time...Nothing can compare to it...It was the most magical time of my life and when I think about it like I am right now typing this, I get major rushes in my body...... And realize how extremely fortunate I am to have a memory like this...........

I lived in the Ozarks for many years.

Sometimes at night I could hear the coyotes in the distance.

I had to decide what that meant to me.

As best I can say it means that place was safe and clean.

memories that make me feel safe.......

all of us 4 kids would be home from school, mom was cooking dinner and we would be helping with setting the table or whatever, then about 5:30 or so, daddy would get home. first thing he would do is give mom a big hug in the kitchen, then they would start dancing.....

During the wintertime, I still find myself waking up and imaginge hearing "All City Schools are CLOSED!" I guess I'm always hoping to hear that my current place of employment would be closed due to snow, which has happened twice in 20 years.

Midwest thunderstorms on a summer night....something strangely comforting about them when I was a child. Also, the sound of trains in the distance. These sounds were very soothing...to this day I listen to white noise to fall a sleep...just like the storms and trains.
