Note to the truly thin (and somewhat to the rest of you)

This is something going on with regards to another site. There is a model person who is excessively thin and she asked persons to critique her pose, not her weight. Fair enough!

Well, sort of fair enough ,because, if you are a model, guess what? People are going to judge your weight, height, hair color, nail length, whether your ankles turn in or out, the length of your toes, and/or anything else which seems potentially pleasing or displeasing to them within the context of what they need or hope to see. So, if you are a bone thin model, and not a poise instructor, and you get rude comments constantly with regards to your weight, it's a pretty good indication that, at the very least, you are doing the wrong poses for your body type.

Thing is, she then went on to say something about how they wouldn't tell a fat person to lay off the hamburgers.

So, I mention to her that yes, indeed, they would to tell a fat person to lay off the hamburgers (some people would) and things oodles more cruel than that too.

This is the response I just got back from her (in regards to this subject):

And unless you've been my size, I don't think you can fairly say that people are more cruel to others than me. I've had people write "eat me" on pieces of bagel and throw them at me. People are more cruel to folks as thin as me than I think you realize.

Point 1: As I pointed out to her in my reply, I made no comparison to how cruel others were to her or anyone else. I only mentioned that they would be more cruel than just saying " Lay off the burgers" to fat people.

Point 2: "And unless you've been my size" is real darned close to assumptive, plus with the rest of her answers, it shows me that she intended it to be assumptive.

What does it assume? All together, her answer assumes that I have never been thin, I am incapable of understanding cruelty because I'm fat, I'm incapable of feeling empathy for her because I am busy feeling jealous that she's so darned thin.

No, you couldn't possibly know all that from what you read above, I guess, so you'll just have to trust me as I'm not about to quote all the messages back and forth.

So, listen up you people who are under a size 8: I was a size 5, at times; I was a size 0 (zero) for over a year. I was a model for a very high fashion, very exclusive designer who was extremely picky about all manner of things, weight included.

Chances are, whatever size you are, I have been your size. And no matter what size I was, I was picked on for it. Actually, even when I was a size zero people would follow me about and call me a fat pig and tell me I should just kill myself because no one would want a lard ass like me .. while other people were throwing food at me and telling me I was disgusting and looked like a cadaver.

It's a gross misconception that people tend to have that simply because a person is currently overweight it means they were overweight all their life. That is neither medically or socially sound theorizing.

Sure, there are persons who are just born fat or they are trained to eat wrong by purpose or by circumstance, or whatever, and they get fat young and stay there. However, there are many many ultra thin persons who used to be fat children or fat teenagers and are now so afraid that they may balloon back up to that, so that they starve themselves. And there are medium sized people who used to be anorexic and there are medium sized people who used to weigh 500 lbs.

There is a lot of variety within the scope of humanity, even when you pick out (or on) one particular social group. Don't assume that just because you have some idea of a person's waist size, it means you know their life story!
