I read a couple of blogs the other day about it not being the law to pay taxes. I bet Al Capone would have liked to known that and Willie Nelson and a few others that have done jail time or paid massive penalties....but that's beside the point. So you don't think you should have to pay taxes here in the USA? Fair enough, but then you shouldn't be able to take advantage of all they provide, things like:
Public education, elementary through college Paved roads Policeman Fireman Rescue workers Public libraries Assisted healthcare programs like Medicare Social security Funding for after school programs and free lunches National parks and the rangers to take care of them Prisons Judges
And the list goes on and on....
but you want to know the most important thing out taxes pay for? Our military, that's right, out military. If it wasn't for them, you all would be still be citizens of England or speaking German or Japanese now. Pull your head out of your butt.
So you don't want to pay them? Then buy a parcel of land - get your own, because my tax dollars pay to support federally owned land - then pave your own road, build your own house and educate your children in it - but don't drive on my paved roads, don't use my library, if someone comes to your house threatening you or your family, don't you dare call my police and if your house burns down, don't call my fire department, you don't have a right to.
I hate cheaters, and it really pisses me off that anyone living in this country who has ever stepped a foot into a public school or used the services of a police or fireman or driven down a paved road thinks that everyone but them should have to pay to support that. What a crock of shit. If you don't want to pay them fine, go live somewhere you don't have to, because in America, you do and it benefits all of us.
If you don't like what I have to say, I don't care - you said your piece, I'm saying mine. Any comments I don't agree with will be deleted - fair warning.

It's kinda funny, Tallblonde. Several of my conservative friends and I have argued about taxes in the past. I always said I wished I made enough money to just call the accountant on January 2nd and tell him to figure out what I owed and bring the check by for me to sign. (Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything like that kind of money or an accountant or anything like that. I just said I wished I was rich enough to do it that way!)
I always felt that sitting around, dreaming up this way or that way to screw them out of paying taxes was vaguely un-patriotic. Our taxes support the government that allows us to be free and have the opportunity to make the kind of money we do. And no matter what percentage they take (even if they, like England, took 90% of everything I made over several hundred thousand dollars), I'm still left with more than I had.
When we hit a political climate such as I feel we have been in the last few years, where I feel my taxes are being spent in ways I do not approve of for the most part, I don't begrudge paying my taxes, I just disapprove of the way they're spent. I still wouldn't dream of trying to sit around and figure out how to screw the government out of another nickel here or there. And frankly, I don't understand the people who seem to think that's all right. The ones who begrudge sharing when they have so much and so many have so little.

You get a kudo from me! My sentiments exactly! I had to block one of the bloggers because he was so nasty to me because I posted a comment that didn't agree with his view. He had to authorize it but he "let me have it" on the blog and in an email. I have enough stress in my life without someone like him adding more! As I said, if they don't like living here, enjoying all the benefits, and paying their fair share, go somewhere else! Try Iraq!

i agree! it doesn't take a rocket scientist with a minor in accounting to figure out that the money it takes to run the gov't has to come from somewhere.
some people must think of the government as their parents...basically responsible to take care of them, and feed and clothe them. and then they complain when uncle sam sends them to their room for not paying taxes

Thanks for the feedback so far.
I did have to delete a comment from someone that thinks all we have to do is print more money and that your taxes really don't pay for those things. Gosh, that's just freakin brilliant, why didn't we think of that before?? Can someone please let me know where I can get my freshly printed cash for free?

It's not a pay taxes or don't pay taxes argument...sure taxes support the infrastructure of our country and fund very valuable and much needed services...but what about our taxes that go to subsidize tobacco, oil companies, and other multi-billion dollar industries? What about the billions of dollars that are being flushed down the drain in Iraq - does anyone in their right mind think that we are going to "win" that foolish war. (This is this generation's Viet Nam and the results will be exactly the same...only instead of Viet Cong and Communism, it will be Shites and Sunnis and Islamic Totalitarianism).
What about the billions spent on special interest projects that elected representatives slip into spending bills that fund fish farms, public monuments, museums, etc.
What about the millions in government waste - anybody want to buy a $20,000 toilet seat?
What about billions spent on the developement and continued maintenance of weapons systems that can obliterate the world hundreds of times over...
How many millions were spent on Star Wars....only to find that it was not a feasible plan...but still the millions are being spent on missle systems - wonder how a missle system might have stopped 747's from crashing into NYC or our own Pentagon...the heart of our military...
It's not that we pay taxes that is the problem...it's that so many of our tax dollars are wasted by politicians crazed with the power of having ready access to trillions of dollars earned from the sweat and labor of hard-working Americans...
Sure I'll pay for the schools, road, libraries, public safety, military and social services...hell throw in health care for all Americans too....but why should I have to pay for the rebuilding of Irag, or support the oil and tobacco industry, or cough up my share of $20,000 for a toilet seat?
Our forefathers through tea into Boston Harbor in protest of the unfair taxation that was thrust upon them by the government of the time....Americans today just salute and open their wallets to feed the spending lust of our politicians...We are getting exactly what we deserve because of our complacency
